Topic Dog Boards / Health / Help please! Is this viral kennel cough?

Hi
My 3 have all started sneezing non-stop. :( Noone is coughing but they are all making a whooshing nasal snuffle. They spent 3 days in kennels about 2 weeks ago(My first time using kennels- I was a wreck!) as I had to be away from home and all my dog-sitters were also away. They were vaccinated against kennel cough but the vet said that this was only effective against bacterial kennel cough and they may still get the viral variety. I should have asked more as I have never had any of my dogs catch kennel cough before. Can anyone tell me about this and should I get them back to the vet? None of them are ill in any way at this point. In fact they are chasing each other around the kitchen mad as hatters as I am sitting here but I know this could change.

Thanks Gill

It doesnt sound like kennel cough, though there is a lot of it about at the moment. When my little girl had it last year, she was definately poorly, and you could not mistake the coughing, which caused her discomfort, and each time she coughed, she vomited. Just keep an eye (and ear) on yours - they sound as if they just have the equivilent of a cold. If coughing does start, get them to the vets, but please dont sit in the waiting room with them, as it is an airborne virus and the other dogs will be very susceptible (spelling?)

You can't mistake kennel cough it sounds like a dry cough from the back of the throat, my old vet told me to use Venos cough mixture from the chemist, wasn't sure at first but it worked a treat, infact she loved the stuff it was honey and lemon!

Thanks will watch them carefully. Just now they do sound as though they have got a sneezy cold and there is no sign of them coughing but wasn't sure what to be looking for.
