I have been interested in getting an English Bull for a while and my breeder has just contacted me to say the pups have been born , she is a lovely lady and doesnt have a problem with me taking one , my query is i already have two dogs , both neutered males a 4 year old labrador and a 2 year old Jack russell and i would like to have a male bully too but i have had very mixed views about this .

So i keep reading that male bullys do not mix well , does this mean even if socialised from a very early age ?? i obviously dont want to upset my other dogs who are very friendly and socialable towards other dogs , i also dont want to buy a pup so have to rehome at a later date .

I have spoke to several breeders and owners but as i said some say they havent heard of any problems and others say dont do it !!

The Stud male is kept entire (obviously) with a lurcher and a staffy !! both stud dogs and they dont scrap ??

Very confusing , I read they are good as a rule with children , mine are 6 and 12 ( obviously no dog should or would be left alone ) dont trust the kids !!!!!

I hope i can have some answers negative or positive as want to know before i put my deposit down , i know you cant tell with any dog if they will mix well but if i am bringing one known not to mix this would be a NO GO , very sadly but very responsibly !

I have Bull Terriers, breed, show and judge them.

Personally I wouldnt keep males running round loose together ( I have two males but have Kennels). You could keep males together but personally I wouldnt risk it.
I have a lovely dog who is a super friendly boy with all other dogs and I have one bitch who won't mix with unknown dogs,(she had an accident as a pup and missed out on socialisation). It all depends on the individual dog.

Most show dogs are good with other dogs, think about it they are stood in the ring with them so must be! So I'd say buy from a showing kennel who are keen on both tempremants and breeding to the standard. You can get a list of regional Bull Terrier secretaries via the Kennel Club.

Bull Terriers get along fine with dog friendly children.

Hope this helps.

By the way have you considered a Welfare dog? Often forced to find a new home because of no fault of their own.

Maybe sensible in the long run :(

Are you putting off getting a dog altogether or looking for another breed now?
