Can anyone help me? I have a 3 yr olds Chocolate Lab bitch and for the past 2 months she has been trying to bite her tail. I have wormed her, de-fleaed her and taken her to the vet. He said it was limbertail, but I'm not convinved. She can be walking along or playing quite happily and then suddently she will turn towards her tail and nibble. I am hoping to breed her in the next couple of months but want to find out what this is first. I have spoken to two different vets at my practice and neither has convinced me that it is limbertail. I have read an article on the net about limbertail and it dosn't sound like this is what she has. Can anyone help me as I don't want to have to keep going back to the vet for them to keep saying the same and not try and treat it or investigate the problem.

the droopy tail thing normally only lasts around a week-------it sounds more like anal glands to me, have them checked.

Cafe, did your choc lab just stop nibbling her tail and did it happen the following summer? Fudge only started nibbling her tail beginning of September. Now it's colder she is still doing it!

Thanks for your help, she has already had her anal glands looked at and emptied. I am not sure though that the vet didn't hurt her when emptying them. Fudge wouldn't stand up so she had to do it with her sitting down and may have casued irritation inside. She has had an anti-inflamatory jab aswell. She will be in season soon and I really want to breed her as last season her mating didn't work! I am worried that having a dodgy tail may make her more stroppy when it comes to mating.

hi yes my lab would do it for a couple of months, then stop, always did it in summer, never had fleas, so not sure what it was all about,
