I have been taking my 8 month old westie up to the field near the woods for 2 weeks now gradually let him off and he came back when i called out until today i just dropped the lead and he wanders around not too far then he spotted pheasants and ran away to chase them he eventually got caught in the bushes or I never would have got him back will he just run the minute i let him off now that he knows there are pheasants and rabbits? I feel that he is restricted when i have him on the extended lead but feel i've lost all confidence of him staying around people say he'll come home eventually but will he?
