Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Crufts advice please

I would like your throught please.

Do you think it would be odd to go to Crufts if you havn't shown all year but qualified at the previous Crufts?
- By bubble [gb] Date 21.10.03 15:02 UTC
No, I dont think it would be odd. Mind you, with the judge we have got this year, (You have got bullies haven't you) you have to ask yourself.... Is it worth going???????
- By Fillis Date 21.10.03 16:17 UTC
Now Bubble...be careful, you never know who might be lurking  :( Have to say, I'm more than happy with the judge for my breed :) :) :)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 21.10.03 16:26 UTC
Who ever the judge they will always suit someone. Would not do if all the judges always liked the same dogs, would be no point in going for the judges opinion if you knew the result before you went. We have all heard those who think they know what a judge will do and then watched the judge do something different. It is the surprise win that adds to the excitement.

Couldnt agree more...and, well Crufts, you have to go dont you?
- By jancx [gb] Date 21.10.03 17:50 UTC
I also totally agree with you. I have never shown yet but already have heard so many tales regarding judging it makes me quite sad. Surely at the end of the day a superb dog will win through no matter who is on the other end of the lead.
- By mickieplum [gb] Date 21.10.03 18:13 UTC
That's rather harsh Bubble! surely comments like those are best kept to yourself instead of being aired on a chat board. This particular judge has bred Bullmastiffs for over 30 yrs including many champions so must have a very good idea what to look for. At least he doesn't judge virtually every other show like some do. If your dog's good it doesn't matter who the judge is!
Oh dear, first day on line and already saying my piece.

Welcome to the Forum :)

Oh Gordon Bennett! I will be careful to explain exactly what I meant!!!!!!
Our judge this year is a breed specialist, one I do respect. I put (you have bullies dont you?) as a question to Candy! Not in anyway to dish the judge!!! You have to ask yourself is it worth going, is a question I believe all exhibitors should think about, as entry fees are really high & crufts is an extremely expensive day out! I thought Candy was someone else, realised now because the one I thought of was at crufts last year, so it cant be her!!! If it was your first ever qualifier for crufts then you must go, your hairs on the back of your neck will stand up all day & the adrenalin will be fantastic!!! You never really recreate that feeling, other than your first time, well....... except that first CC!!!!!!
- By bubble [gb] Date 04.11.03 19:13 UTC
OOOPs.. I also forgot that at least this year a decent moving exhibit will go into the big ring, lets all be honest whatever breeds we have, thats not always the case! :(
- By Candy [nl] Date 06.11.03 09:38 UTC
Oh im confused now, I was at Crufts this year, Bosley got a second in his class so I believe he has qualified for next year?

I was mainly concerned that I havn't shown him this year, Im at LKA so I think I will see how he does and decide from there really.

Could someone please tell me what line the judge has?

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.11.03 10:13 UTC
Hi,
What breed is Bosley? And what class did he come second in last Crufts? (Not all classes qualify at second place).
:)
- By Candy [nl] Date 06.11.03 13:29 UTC
He's a Bullie and he came second in post grad.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.11.03 13:39 UTC
Sorry to be dim :o, but ... Bull Terrier? Bulldog? Bullmastiff?

Edit: 2nd in post Grad should certainly qualify him.
:)
- By Candy [nl] Date 06.11.03 17:10 UTC
Sorry, Bullmastiff!!
- By bubble [gb] Date 06.11.03 20:16 UTC
Hi Candy,
Bill has the Bunsoro line, they have a stunning brindle bitch pup out at the moment, B. Over the Moon,
moves like a steam train. Glad you are going to LKA, from all the people i've spoken to it seems like there will only be a handful of us there! Lots are going to the Association the saturday before under the canadian judge and cant be bothered doing two in one week.
See you there.
- By Candy [nl] Date 11.11.03 13:46 UTC
Thats a shame, are you doing both or just LKA?
- By bubble [gb] Date 18.11.03 17:25 UTC
We are going to LKA, Manchester. Also doing chesham open show in uxbridge, as there are breed specialists on & the open shows need supporting!
- By Lollie [gb] Date 22.10.03 07:41 UTC
Yes go, you have qualified, seems sad not to, i will be there even if bubble won't be, she should go as she has a lovely fawn boy, and at the end of the day, we all pay our money and take our chance and who's to say it won't be our turn to win this time. If your not there you will never know.
Bubble you should go you can always show my Lollie (other wise know as Kanga)...remember last itme you showed her as a puppy under Stuart Mallard eeh eeh eeh.
Karen.

i wouldn't have thought showing should be about winning, surely it should be the enjoyment of entering and having a great day out and most importantly the dogs enjoying themselves :) i think too much bitchiness goes on between pple, why can't certain pple be pleased for those that win?

Everybody has the best dog at the end of the day and thats the one they take home :)

this post is not aimed at anyone, its just things i've noticed when i've been at shows.....judge calling and other dog owner calling

<<<judge calling and other dog owner calling >>>

OH KAREN!!!! I forgot about that! The humiliation!!! Has anyone else managed to show a bullmastiff who can get around a massive ring without any feet touching the floor? Then she slipped the blinkin lead and careered off towards her mum! aaaahh  didnt do bad though eh? the dogs mental :D!!!
- By Fillis Date 05.11.03 18:53 UTC
The only time my boy ever decided he needed a dump whilst in the ring was at Crufts! (He still got placed) :o

Edited to say: By my boy, I mean my dog, not hubby who was handling :D :D :D
- By bubble [gb] Date 06.11.03 20:18 UTC
Well I suppose if they are gonna go, you might as well make it worthwhile!!
Isn't it awkward getting it off the green carpet!! :D :D
- By Lollie [gb] Date 06.11.03 08:40 UTC
My dogs not mental - just very enthusiastic!!!!!!!!( she still got best puppy that day)
Karen.
