I'm very keen to add to my little family (one girl at the minute) should I have another girl or a boy. Can my educated "westie" colleagues give me sensible advice on which sex I should introduce to my little westie, a boy or a girl. Can you advise me on the positives and negatives of my choice.
Many thanks

Same sex relationships often end in tears through battles over doninance. Even with bitches there has to be someone in control.
I would suggest a dog if anything. I'm contradicting myself! I have two bitches but they are mother and daughter, daughter knows her place. Before baby came along it was just my bitch and my dog (sadly my boy was PTS on Sunday). They got along perfectly but they were introduced gradually.
When introducing a new puppy you should do it slowly, take your time. It took me 13 weeks to introduce my puppy to her dad. They met through baby gates and windows, then on leads and we slowly built up to running free in the house and then the garden.
There is no reason for you to have any problems if you go about it all responsibly and take your time.
You must remember that a dog and bitch will breed if you are not careful. If you do not want a litter i suggest you have them both dressed. Castration/ spaying can help to reduce health problems in the future, but can also have its draw backs so have a good chat with your vet. If you are planning to have a litter be very careful when choosing your dog, he must be of sound health, type and temperament along with the current health checks in place.
Good luck!
I hope you find your perfect companion.
