hi,

only asking to be nosey really but ive seen a few posts on here saying there are loads of ISBT's for sale in local papers etc.

i was wondering where abouts these people are from as in in middlesbrough and know of a whole 1 other isbt near by and havent seen anything in the local rag etc.

andy

Mind if I jump on your thread?

Does the KC recognise ISBT's as a breed? Do you think it ever will? What are the main differences between it and an American Bull Terrier (and a 'pit' bull)?

They are beautifull dogs and I have what may well be a ISBT cross - my vet told me she's close to a pitbull but as she's a rescue dog we put her on his books as a crossbreed.

There is a new dog in my area who's owners claim is a pitbull but I think she might be ISBT.

I'm really interested in the breed from what I know so far but would love to learn more about them so if anyone has links or pictures etc they can email me :)

Thanks,

Nikki

Nikki
they are infact able to be registered in Ireland :) but not in the UK

LOL - Typical! If I thought I'd be staying over here I'd look for one but I'm thinking of moving back to the mainland. Think a Stafford is the breed for me :D (although hubby is trying to talk me into one of the bigger mastiff breeds)

no the KC doesnt recognise the ISBT imo they probably never will. the isbt is smaller, less stocky (although mine at least is much bigger that a sbt) with fairly similar features to an apbt. The theory is that they do contain some APBT from way back when (err i think). am not the authority on this so please people dont take it as though i think i know what im talking about because my knowledge is v limited and i dont want to be responsible for yet another isbt argument on here.

the chances of you having a pit cross are quite small (although not impossible as there are a few around). I wouldnt reccomend bringing it up too often as i could be illegal (DDA covers dogs of APBT type) just stick to it being an ISBT cross.

The guy who claims he has a pit is probably one of the many idiots who are desperate to look clever so buys a dog as a penis extension (probs couldnt afford the sportscar) just leave him too it.

once again, i know very little - not looking for an argument - just an owner trying to amass info.

Perfectly worded, Andy!!!
:)

LMAO @ Penis extension! If they knew anything about dogs they'd not get a big softie of a breed like the ISBT. The only dog I've ever been scared of was a jack russell (still make me jumpy)! I asked the owner if it was an ISBT and he said 'No it's a pit and I've the papers to prove it' Doh!

Thanks for your info - I'm sure we'll see a lot more of the breed in the future (unless the DDA and peoples ignorance step in :()

they are reg in uk by the irish staff bull terrier club or the ikc or the unkc.
the irish staff has got some pit in its blood but way back as well as bullterrier and staffy terrier.they can come in all sizes from 16 inches to even 24 inches.there famous bloodline is stormer and pyscho lines of which they were father and son.they were famous dog fighting dogs.
the american pitbull and american staff were essentially the same breed upto a point i think in the 1930 when they had 2 registries one calling them am pitbulls and one calling them am staffs.
the amstaff are basically show bred dogs and conform to a certain standard while pits these days are more working dogs.a lot of pits can be double registered as pits and amstaffs.
someone experienced in dogs can tell between an irish staff, pitbull and amstaff.
however a pitbull can look like any of the 3 which isnt the same for an irish or amstaff

Does it matter if the KC regard the ISBT as a breed? No it doesn't. French Mastiffs, American Bulldogs etc (list goes on) are also not considered as breeds by them. All that matters is that you have a good dog, the type of dog that you are looking for. My Irish Staff is the best dog you could ever imagine to find. Infact hes a local legend, much more people know the dog than they know me. Especially among OAPs and children who absolutley love him. If you like Staffs buy an Irish one because they're even better. My dog maybe like a Pit Bull it may not be like a Pit Bull Ive never met a Pit Bull and from what I know there are thousands of different types, sizes temraments etc so it really doesnt matter. Just use your common sense.

That depends on what you want.I want a dog with health tests completed, whos 'lines' I can trace 100%(bred by a very reputable lady) and who I can show...so yes I consider KC reg very important to me.If you just want a pet and are not bothered about health tests etc the maybe KC reg doesn't mater...personal preferance again...each to their own.
