Can you recommend some treats i can use for training with, we get our pup on Saturday and can't wait, (Shelti), and what do you put in kongs. Thanks.

Ive always found beef schmackos do the best, their highly flavoured and all the dogs ive ever had have all really liked them, ive always found them excellent for training.

You can look on the KONG Website for ideas about filling a kong ..but remember a small puppy shouldn't have too many treats as it could upset his stomach

I buy Pedigree chum treats (sorry cannot remember name of them), they are about 5-6" long and are puppy treats, I cut them up into smaller bits when training so not to fill them up on treats.

At our training class it has to be meat. We were told they wont work as well if you give them anything else. So we cook liver in the oven at 100 for 3 hours, it stinks but I must admit my puppy would do anything for it lol

I guess all dogs are different and you have to find out what each individual likes best. Agree you need to be a little careful with small pups to avoid tummy upsets, and try to avoid the"products" which have too many additives and, guess what, SUGAR!!! for heaven's sake

Suggestions are: liver, chicken, cheese, sausages (cooked cocktail ones); cooked hot dogs, dried tripe and meat (Webbox - try Sainsbury's.)

My dog likes Scmackos (sp?) but they were not enough to motivate in a training class environment, for that she needed cheese etc ;)

My dog goes nuts over any kind of dry cereal. If I am pouring myself some in the morning she comes running from where ever she is in the house. I find that with training her, it works well because she isn't so distracted from the smell that she won't focus on the task at hand. But believe me, she will do anything for cereal.
