Hello

I have 2 Basset hounds and Emma, the youngest bitch, is now in season.
I am eager to find a stud dog for her. I am based in Manchester and am
willing to travel.

If you have any information regarding where I could find a suitable stud

Surely you should have had a stud dog lined up long ago? Is your bitch health tested? If you have done all the homework necessary to breed a litter you will know that no reputable stud dog owner will let their dog near your bitch without the correct research being done. I would suggest you forget breeding this time, and spend the next 4 months researching the lines of your bitch and what lines a compatible stud should come from, have your bitch health tested, and contacting the owners of prospective stud dogs. You will also need to visit the dog and see if he will compliment your bitch. Breeding is so much more than having a bitch in season and a willing dog.

Assuming you have taken steps to make sure your bitch is worth breeding from, you have now left it to late to be able to check out the stud, its background and health etc. so your best plan would to be to contact her breeder, which to be honist is where you should have gone in the first place if you are new to breeding.

We would have know idea about a suitable stud, there are a lot of things to take into consideration just any available male will not do, and as you are inexperianced you may need help too so a stud with a track record will be required.
