Polly has very itchy feet and legs and has been licking and licking and licking. The vet first of all diagnosed mites but the medication didn't have any effect. Now he has had a look at a sample of skin under the microscope and has diagnosed a fungal infection, microsporum canis. We have been given Imaverol (which may not be available in the UK) which contains enilconazol.
Using a flower spray we managed, with a lot of wriggling about (21 kilos of wriggle !!) to really wet all her undercarriage plus legs and feet. This was last thursday but the licking has not even been reduced. We are supposed to "spray" her 4 times at intervals of 5 days.
Has anyone else had any experience with this kind of thing ? I feel so sorry for my poor girl, it must itch her like mad.
Any kind words would be most appreciated.

Greetings from Germany

Yes, one of mine has had a fungal skin infection. He was given Malaseb Shampoo by the vet, and it worked very well. I'm told that Nizoral Shampoo, available over the counter at any good chemist shop, in addition to Hibiscrub, hand cleanser, will do a good job too.
Good Luck,

If your dog has a fungal infection you must make sure that there is no sugar or yeast in her diet; yeast feeds of sugar, sugar is what carbohydrates are broken down into. You may need to change her diet to a simpler one to avoid the problem recurring otherwise you will always be treating the symptoms. If you don't want to feed raw then something like Burns, the variety without the sugar beet pulp, or nature diet which contains only meat, carrots, bone and rice.

Thanks for the tip Tohme. I do in fact feed mostly raw, with dried complete sometimes in the mornings. I do however often mix potatoes, rice, pasta etc with the meat. I think I shall have to stop doing that, at least until this bout is cleared up. I've just given her green tripe, veg + pasta for her tea !!
Polly has her own freezer full of goodies (green tripe, beef, liver, chicken necks, veal bones etc) and there is still plenty of green stuff to mix with it in the garden, so I shall have to concentrate on this!

I can't get any of the stuff otherwise recommended here in Germany. I will persevere with what the vet gave me anyway.

Let's hope for the best.
