Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Problems with our Dobermann

we have a 3 years old male dobermann. He is a very friendly dog. The problem is that he was used to be all the time in the house. Now we want to keep him outside, because he take"s over the house and also i developped a kind of allergie. We have now made a big fenced yard outside for him with a big dog kennel, but he tries all the time to get out of the fence and inside the house again.

Has anyone an idea how we can make him stay outside or should we bring him to a dog trainer or get him maybe a companion dog. If we have to go for another dog, we would like to have a female Dobermann.

If anyone can give us an advise or knows where is a litter, please contact us asap.

Thank in advance

You can't just one day say right the dog has to live outside now and put him out, that is not how you do it it takes weeks of care and to help the dog by letting him there for a few mins then by feeding him in there you going in there with him and sit in there make it a happy place as i said it can take weeks but if done correctly they dont mind to much, but i think after 3 years of being a house dog it's not a nice thing to do you should give him a chair/thick blanket to lay on as he will feel the cold very badly, and i would not get another dog as this will make things worse.

If you had lived all your life indoors with company and, from what you say about your dog taking over the house, free run of your home how would you react to being shut outside on your own.

Of course he is trying to get back in again. Dobermanns are not outside dogs and most of them crave human company. If he is taking over your home why not just get a dog gate and confine him to downstairs or a few rooms so he can still see and hear you rather than banishing him from your daily lives.

By all means visit a dog trainer (preferably without your dog to discuss your problem) but don't get another one as thay will make your problem even worse - especially if he does not get on with whatever bitch you took home.

Who is his breeder - would they be able to offer you any advice?

i wouldnt get a female unless you are sure you can seperate them during her season. if you are allergic its unwise to get a second dog at all. maybe your dog would be happier living with someone who can keep it inside.
