Hiya
Does anyone own/breed/show shelties on here? As I was just wondering at what age they stopped growing, my pup is 15-16weeks now and is 12 inches high, is this huge? As I think anything above 15inches when they are fully grown is too big for the show ring isn't it?

The breed standard says:

Ideal height at withers: dogs: 37 cms (141/2 ins); bitches: 36 cms (14 ins). More than 21/2 cms (1 in) above or below these heights highly undesirable

Yes, so maximum 15inches for her, I think she will most probably grow bigger than that if she is 12inches now?

Hi Gina

I don't have Shelties but a lot of small breeds get to full size before bigger breeds My cavaliers certainly do & they also stop growing sooner too

I thought so as my GSD X continued growing till 12months. But my little lightweight collie hardly grew much from 6months, didn't know if that was due to her porr state (was a rescue dog and 1/3 of her weight).

Hiya
That's the thing, her parents are small and lightweight and I met her grandmother and great grandmother and they both are small. Her dad is Seavall Seamus. She was the biggest out of her litter though, she's got a huge nose too!

Hiya
Yes I was hoping to do some showing with her until she was old enough for agility, but I don't want to enter shows and find she gets too big as it will have been a waste of money, so that's why I was wondering if she was overly big.
