OK, Oscar is just over 10 weeks old and a complete star, but!!! the one thing I can't break is his biting/grabbing my hand, sleeve, leg, etc when we are playing, it's not all the time and mainly only when he is excited whilst playing, he's not doing it all the time. I realise that it might just be to do with being excited but those needle sharp teeth really hurt. I've tried - putting hand in fist, and giving him something else/his toy to hold in his mouth, giving a sharp, Ouch!!!! So help.

Hi our pup is 16 weeks old now we were given loads of advice because he was a little sod not only was he nipping but he was getting growly and aggressive as well. The advice about the aggression was spot on and had an almost imediate effect but there seemed to be two schools of thought on nipping one was either a loud NO! and a tap on the nose or holding their muzzle shut and again a loud NO! unfortunately our pup saw this as a game and proceeded to bite us even more and brought some of the aggression back as well. What worked for us was ignoring him completely when he nipped folding our arms and turning our back on him and if he still didn't take the hint put him in another room on his own for a few minutes bring him back in and repeat if he nips again it really worked for us hope it helps.

Cheers

Hi all,

don't worry too much about the biting and grabing, it's a puppy thing!!!!

BUT you do have to guide the biting in the right direction, ie. away from your arms. This can be done in a few ways:-

1. Scream and make a HUGE fuss when your dog bites or mouths you and praise him as soon as he lets go and keep doing this.

2. Stuff a toy into his mouth everytime he grabs you and praise when it stays in there.

3. Growl at him everytime he grabs at you and praise when he lets go.

Keep persevering, they do grow out of it, but need a little help along the way.
