Is there any one out there that suffers with this problem.

April
My husband has just been diagnosed with this. He can't have anything containing yeast, (obviously), wheat, sugar. He can't have mushrooms, bananas or beef, cows milk or goats milk, but is allowed sheeps milk & cheese.
What surprises me is yeast is hidden in so much food. Health food shops are quite good, and I am led to believe that Sainsbury's do a very good yeast free wheat free bread, but we have not tried it yet.
I am trying to find him a cider which is not made with yeast so he could have a small drink once a week. But he is allowed a small gin & tonic every now and again.
Perhaps we shall have to give each other some tips.

I am fairly sure a friend had a problem due to candida, she called it having a "leaky gut". The candida I believe grows into the gut lining (is this right?) and she was quite ill.
She went to a naturopath or herbalist, can't remember which, and was put on Slippery Elm amongst other things, and she seems to be very muchimproved or much better now. The SE protects the stomach so that the candid can't get so much of a hold. But you have to get SE from the health shop and not fomr Boots, where it is mostly flour, a right swizz!!!
I must admit, i don't always put my faith in doctors - i have suffered from a bad form of IBS, doctor could not help, but i put myself on an exclusion diet and stopped all sorts such as yeast, wine, caffeine, and so on, and discovered that caffeine played a major part in my troubles. Makes sense when you think about it.
I have also had a stomach pain for about 18 months, again doctor has no suggestions left after the gastroscopy showed clear except for a very little inflammation, but i have put myself on Silica Gel to protect and soothe the stomach and gut, and touch wood i feel so much better!
I am a firm believer in reading up and helping oneself if at all possible :)
Very sorry to hear the candida is making you so ill, it is no fun is it?
Best wishes

When my husband went to the doctor he was told he probably had ME, and suggested going to a homiapathic doctor. The tests showed he had candida and certain food intollarences, which with a careful diet for 3 months he should be cured.
He has been following the diet now for only 2 1/2 weeks and already has much more energy, is not tired during the day as much and can now stay up until 10pm, which believe me is very very good for him.
Once I did my first lot of food shopping, having to read all the lables was an absolute nightmare, it's much easier now. I usually head straight for the free from range and also buy lots of fish.
Evening meals have not changed that much, as we always eat quite healthily anyway, but I do struggle sometimes with his lunch as he can't have sandwiches anymore.
We are just hoping that after the 3 months are up we can start introducing the foods again and see what reaction he has to them. We have found some tablets in the health food shop which help control the yeast content in the stomach, so I suspect he will have to have these most of the time in the future.

PS Sorry for any spelling mistakes. Spelling is not my strong point !! :)

Hi
I have suffered for 13 years with this problem not knowing I had it. I had a blood test for food allergies and I couldnt eat 150 foods I had to come of all these foods all I could eat was turkey and rye bread and I became so Ill and lost loads of weight. In the end I went to a Dr who has helped me but candida was just the start I had worms in my lungs in my sinuses and in the bladder.I also had mould problems in my sinuses to. Candida changes the hormones as well so monthlys are a night mare migrains vomiting all sorts. The docter I see has helped me eat more foods but it will take about 18 months till I will feel better. The candida has come back 3 times because I have had to have antibiotics which make the candida grow.

Now isn't that funny, my husband too has rice milk and he prefers it to cows milk.
He is allowed sheep's milk but I can't find it anywhere.
Sugar, yes it is hidden, it would seem everywhere.
:)
Hi,
Look here for sheep milk/products producers
http://www.sheepdairying.com/DryPrd.htmI haven't got Candida but when I went through depression a ( useless!) therapist told me I had it so I read up a lot about it and found out I hadn't. I suppose you believe people when you're vunerable.
I don't put my faith in anyone now unless I've read up about something first and agree with them!!
Kath.
I must admit, i quite like rice milk too :)

Hi
More of us than are known probably have this problem as GPs don't seem to be able to diagnose quickly.
I suffered for 2 years before finally going private for tests and found yeast was the cause of all my troubles! I had had tests for celiac disease, IBS and various scans and x-rays for pancreatic cancer, bowel cancer etc. etc.
I can't eat cheese, eggs, mayonnaise, mushrooms, tomatoes, malt vinegars, alcohol - except triple distilled vodka, bread and cakes, malted drinks, grapes or foods containing MSG. Also have to ckeck pasta does not contain eggs.
Makes eating out a pain as by choice I stopped eating meat 15 years ago so I live on fish, veg, salad, potates, rice cakes and eggless pasta - its so damn boring at times but the improvement it made to my life makes it all worthwhile.
Have you tried live yogurt or the 'yakult' type drinks. You can eat it or actually apply it to the affected parts. (try smearing it on a pad to wear - if it's 'you know where'). I would look at the homeopathic remedies if you haven't already. I'll check in one of my books and post again.

Hi Dudley
People who have yeast intolerances are usually affected in the gut - a reaction brought on by the foods they eat going through the digestive tracts which explains those who were thought to have IBS, Celiac disease etc.
Unfortunately, yoghurt is one of the prime culprits because it is a food that is created by using its own natural yeast to ferment into the final product. Usually, yoghurt is good for the gut as you need good, live bacteria to keep the insides healthy but this has the opposite effect for people who can't tolerate yeast.
It is also one of my 'banned' foods along with sugar (which luckily I don't take in drinks!) because sugar acts on yeast to start fermentation in the gut, but I had left these off my list of what not to eat.
Thanks for the thought though.
Have you tried tea tree oil? Its anti-fungal so may help.
