I have been recommended Xenex spot on treatment, but after ages looking cant find anywhere to buy it. Anyone know of another good natural treatment? (To be used on pregnant bitch).

You can have a look at the sites below Phillis but I don`t know if you can use them while she`s in whelp.

Hi Christine,
I know the link to Canine Natural Cures is for herbal stuff but everyone just beware of their homeopathic stuff. I don't know if you follwed this thread

http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?tid=34636

but the Co. was Can. Nat. Cur.

I strongly suspect they are selling ordinary homeopathic remedies under their own trade names and charging a lot for them.

For fleas I use homeopathic Sulphur, Brewers Yeast, Garlic (but not too much as it's the onion family and can cause anaemia in big amounts), and cider apple vinegar. I also put a drop of tea tree and lavender on her collar every couple of weeks ( * but don't use those while pregnant or nursing *). Daily vaccuuming and changing the dogs bedding helps too. Bess has a piece of duvet and I made a waterproof cover so the fleas can't get into it to lay their eggs.

Hi Kath, no I didn`t know it was that firm!!!!! What a rip off eh?

I give a clove of crushed garlic each to my lot with their veggies plus some other supps & since I`ve been doing that they haven`t had a prob with fleas.

Hi Fillis,
I use dyna-mite from stock nutrition. It's excellent and can even be used on people as an insect repellent!! One small bottle makes 25 litres, so is very economical. It only contains herbal oils, so is very safe.

Oh yes forgot about dyna-mite :)

I`d still check tho to make sure it`s ok for use on in whelp dog.

This might just be an old wives tale but a breeder told me that he gives his dogs garlic in their food and it keeps fleas away! I've been using oderless capsules in my dogs food for the past year and haven't seen one of the little beggars. They aren't special dog ones either just Tesco's one a day variety. The vet said they couldn't hurt her but he wasn't sure on how/if they would work.

Worth a try if, like me, you don't want to cover your baby in chemicals ;)

Thanks everyone - have just had it confirmed that Dyna Mite is safe for pregnant and lactating bitches.
