Topic Dog Boards / General / Dogs in Spain
- By Monkeynuts [gb] Date 16.10.03 09:13 UTC
Hi there,

I don't post very often but I do read the boards and wondered if anyone could help me.

Does anyone live in Spain and have dogs here?

At the moment I have two CKCS's and am moving to Spain in about a years time. I want to get as much info as I can beforehand.
Does Spain have a Kennel Club equivalent? Do I need to register my dogs over there or is it ok just to have them registered here. Also if I wanted to get another dog, I know lots of breeders don't allow their dogs to be exported, so how would I go about being able to find a breeder in Spain.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks Christine, I'm off to look at that site now. Luckily I'm fluent in Spanish so won't have a problem with it.

Where in Spain are you, if you don't mind me asking?

Being fluent will be a real help for you then :)
I`m down in San Roque, half an hour from Estepona, 15mins from Gibraltar. Where abouts are you thinking of going?
You might like to have a look at the link below, it`s the magazine most show folk buy over here, gives the shows, results etc. & the next link is for the second most popular mag.

Hi there, yep the link to the Spanish KC is below.....unless you speak the language you won`t be able to read it tho & theres no translastion :)

Once you`re living in Spain you`ll have to register your dogs with them. You`ll be able to find breeders over here but if you wanted lines from UK then obviously you`d have to make arrangements with the breeders over there, much like you would if you were living in Scotland or the other side of the country to them. I don`t see why it would be a problem tho as I know most breeders want a good lifelong home for their pups & once assured of that would be happy to let a pup go to Spain. Me living here hasn`t stopped me from getting pups from lines I wanted & I know a lot of people who`ve brought dogs of diff. breeds over here from all over the world, not just from the UK.
Good luck.

ps. forgot to add when you go to link go to clubes & then look for a club for your breed, they will give you info for breeders in Spain.

Try contacting a champdogger called Stephanie Pressdee. She has moved out to Spain, about two to three years ago. She is based near Albox in Almeria. Her new email address is doghouse_358@yahoo.co.uk
and her phone number there is 0034 600 803 570. She runs a B&B service and has boarding kennels and cattery there.

Hi

Thanks Polly and Christine for the info.
Been having terrible problems trying to reply to messages as they seem to be invisible!

I have another question if that's ok?

Can you buy Frontline flea pipettes & Drontal worming tablets in Spain?

Cheers

Ali

Oh yes, you can buy all those things & lots more too. They even have an agent selling Burns food in Benelmadena/Fuengirola :)

Hi Christine,

Thanks for that. We're looking to move to Madrid in about a years' time but I thought I'd better check things out so I can get everybody ready and know what to expect.

What type of dogs do you have and did they adapt well to the heat? I have CKCS so they're quite long-haired dogs. Also the weather isn't anywhere near as warm in Madrid as where you are so I hope they'll be ok!

And if I can't get the right doggie food in Madrid I can always get Mum to send me some up as my parents live in Alhaurin el Grande.

Thanks ever so much for your help again

love

Ali

I have labradors & 2 came to me when they were 10wks old from UK, both adapted very well :)
Think you might be in for a surprise tho, Madrid gets very hot in the summer  but the winter is colder than down here :) but you should find everything you need there & if not you`ll be shouting for help to your mum :)
