Hi.
Finally got the call from a breeder last week. They have a puppy for us and we are going to see it this sunday!!

Thing is- im not too sure what questions to ask the breeder! i know the ones like- how many litters you have a year etc, but i an worried abou tthe papers- could someone tlak to me about them, and what i have to ask in order for it all to go ok!

think of anything you are not sure of and make a note of it which you can take with you when you visit .
There are a million question to ask especially if you are a novice owner .
Ask about what food pup is presently on , how many meals a day and how much he needs ,when to best change to adult food , when you can take pup out and what age he must be for longer walks , what age he can safely go up an down stairs etc ,what injections pup will need , whether pup will have had any when you collect him or her etc . If you are wanting to show in the future ask questions about that too . How best to introduce to other dogs etc etc.

I take it you are in the U.S.? You need to ask the breeder if the litter will be registered with the AKC. You should ask the breeder about the dam and sire - are either of them breed champions, or obedience champions. I would also ask to see the pedigree of the dam and sire. You should see a good number of champions in the pedigree. You might also ask the breeder if she or he is a member of the national breed club - this usually means the breeder is serious about the breed in terms of its health and future.

You should expect the breeder to quiz you about your home environment (kids, garden, who will be home during the day, have you had dogs before, why do you want a Wheaten, etc.). If the only thing that seems to interest them is selling a pup it's a bad sign. As you are in the U.S., the breeder might advise you that any puppy she sells as a companion animal comes with a spay or neuter contract. At some point, perhaps not a first visit, the breeder should advise you that if you ever want to give up your Wheaten that they expect you to contact them first. The breeder should also be open and willing to answer any questions you have - at this visit and in the future.

When you visit, you also want to make sure that all premises and dogs are clean, healthy looking, active and happy.

Gus is my second Staffordshire of my own . When at home when I was younger we have had GSD, collie and mongrel - not all at once though :)
