Hi ALL

As you may be aware i had my little girl speyed just over a week ago. I was told to expect a little discharge but she has been fine, until today. I noticed this morning after weeing that she had a bloody mucus so i thought i would keep an eye and see what happens. I have just had a call from my other half who is at home to say that she is dripping blood constantly ( he never normally notices so it is probably fairly bad) and should i ring the vets- Well i have just phoned and i am getting her there as soon as i can but i need to get home from work collect etc so it will be about 6.00 by the time i get there. Has anyone had this before???? Should i be panicking???

Hi Brinny,
sorry I can't offer any advice except that you're doing right by going to the vets. I hope you get her sorted and that she's OK.

thinking of you,
Kath.

You do not say where she is dripping. You should not see bloody mucus (pus) from the wound - if you do it is infected and she needs antibiotics. If there is an infection the wound maynot heal and could open up. This happened to a friend's dog. Eventually the vet needed to cut away the infected area and reseal the wound. The second incision healed well.

Years ago I spayed one of my GSDs. A few days afterwards blood poured from her vagina while she was walking. I called the vet who told me that sometimes there is sometimes "spontaneous bleeding from the stump". The bleeding stopped very quickly and everything else proceded as normal.

Let us know how she is after you get back from the vet.

How did it go at the vets Brinny?

Hi ALL

Well the vet said that it is not normal to bleed, BUT it could have been a pool of blood that had collected in the vagina and with a stretch had all been released in one go?? She said to not worry to much as when an internal was done her hands were clean(sorry to be graphic) so she does not think it is serious ie hemeraging etc. I have just got to keep a close eye on her and see what happens
Thanks for the support

Brinny,

Glad everything looks fine. It does sound like what I experienced with my GSD years ago, which was no problem for anyone but panicky me.
