Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows any breeders in the united states where there will be a breeder that breeds toy munchkins? Please help me and my family out. We have been looking for a small dog and the toy munchkin is the that type of dog. So if you can help us, then please e-mail me at these e-mails: Wolfspirit44@hotmail.com, and Wolfgirl442002@yahoo.com. Thanks for listening, and me and my family would love to hear from anyone that knows a breeder.
Thanks> Katelynne

Welcome to the forum Katelynne. Try Toy Munchkin.
They should be able to point you in the right direction :-)

I've not seen these dogs before and toys are not usually my thing - but these are adorable. What brilliant dogs for people who can't cope with bigger dogs and for kids too.

Oh dear - can anyone tell me why (apart from extracting $$$$$$$$s from the gullable public) that a small Pomeranian/Dwergspitz with a shaved backside is any different from one with its coat intact?

Yet another scam breed with its own 'unique' register (ie made up cos the real KC's won't register them)?

Anyone got any spare Poms and a set of clippers they don't wany any more??????££££££££!!!!!!!!

Right I will start breeding large wolf sable ones and shave my Elhounds bots, or maybe kichigai will lend me his/her Keeshonds? You could have a giant one too, wonder how an Akita would feel about the indignity though?!

Be better off buying the original article, a pomeranian or Klein spitz!

Hey they seem like a nice pup to me, I checked out the site, sounds like a great pet. Especially for those living in an apartment and the part I liked the best is that they are good with kids.
All breeds had to start out somewhere, it takes some time before they can become offically recognized. Who are we to judge an individual who is taking the time and energy to breed a dog that fits particular needs etc. My breed is the Shetland Sheepdog and in there background are collies, poms, cavaliers, and spitz. Afterall, all domestic dogs can be traced back to the gray wolf. Check out this months National Geographic, they feature(& on cover) the origins of the domestic dog.

Yeah, but why not just call them what they are? 'Poms with shaved backsides' doesn't quite have the same ring to it, don't you think?

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&q=munchkin&btnG=Google+Search&meta=group%3Drec.pets.dogs.breeds
will throw up some more info on them that is NOT from the breed creator's site.

Don't be taken in by all you read on web sites. If all I was interested in was pups for ££££££'s, I could easily set up a glossy web site singing the praises of whatever wonderful breed I'd invented and easily skim over any down side they may have (like the need to keep clipping the things continually?!).

Oh, and my dogs are great with kids but I have no desire to miniaturise them and shave their backsides.

Look like they are crossed with a monkey.
I to think they are cute but shaved backside would
put me of my tea.

Oh pleeze, could you imagine having that winking at you at meal times? lol
I think we'll just leave them as they are <g>

What a sight that would be, A mini GSD with a bald bum! What do you think we could call this "new" breed then Nix, how about a Greatly Shaved Doggidoo. LOL

nah, I think they'd have to be Midget Baldybutts! <vbg>
Can't be having the same initials or they might have to retain some working ability as well! lol

The toy munchkin was featured 3 years ago as a great pet for kids by a reputable vet. She chose it for her own family pet. It seems to be a cross of a Pomeranian and Yorkie. The idea was to get a small breed with the same temperment. There are differences in them and tell me that last time you saw a Pomeranian in black and white or in a wide assortment of colors. They come in varying colors.

As they are a recognized breed by the AKC I would have to say they must know the origin.

As if it matters what it is made of anyway. Just take it home and give it love.

AKC recognized breeds the official site of the American Kennel Club, has no listing, registration, or mention for Munchkins, Toy or otherwise in its breed classes.

It might be a wonderful new dog breed...but it has not been officially accepted as such. It will take a while before the AKC would even consider it. Decades, likely, if ever.
And just because this was a wonderful vet, doesn't mean he/she knew anything about creating a new dog breed.
toodles
