Our beautiful old Weimaraner died last July, aged 13 years. He was just the best and kindest dog and I miss him every day still. We had him from Rescue aged 4 years and boy was he a handful!
After being without him for 6 months now I am beginning to be able to consider the posibility of loving another dog. Having gone through all the options, I have come to the conclusion that another Weimaraner dog would be ideal, and I am currently in the process of pursuading my husband to agree with me! He is not a natural dog-lover (although he was a devoted Dad to Zico) and can't really see why we should get another. I did however convince him 9 years ago that it was a good idea, so am sure I can win him round again! Us wives have our ways!!! There is a possibility that he will be more ameanable to another rescue dog, and if that's the only way, then that's fine by me! If I have my way however, I would very much like a puppy, (simply because I feel I missed out on four happy years by not having Zico from a pup) and the ideal time to introduce one into our lives would be July as work commitments are fewer for both of us at that time and the first all important few weeks can be dedicated to settling the puppy into our lives.
In the meantime therefore I have lots of free time which is not being taken up tramping the local countryside following a happy little tail and would like to put the time to good use reading up on training techniques and finding a breeder who is likely to have puppies available in July. I am planning to go to Crufts to have a look at lots of lovely Weims together to get an ideal of type and temprement and take the breeder search from there. I have already had some very valuable advice from a breeder (thanks Jeanette) but she won't have a litter available in the summer.
Can someone recommend a training book which would be suitable for Weimaraners and their sensitive, neurotic natures? I would love to try Agility with this next dog too, I'm sure Zico would have loved it.
By the way, love the site! can't think why I haven't found it before!

Welcome to the forum Linda :-)
Very sorry to hear about your lad. I bet you miss him, but how exciting to be thinking about getting a new puppy! Some of our members have weimar's and will be at Crufts too, so you will be able to get to speak to them in person. Some will even have
Champdogs Name Badges on, so that will make life even easier to avoid them :D :P ;-)

Hi Zico's mum
I hope you find what you are looking for soon - you sound a wonderful home for this beautiful breed. Go for a puppy if that's what you want too. It is hard work with a puppy - but nothing compared to what a resuce dog can be. You will certainly have the advantage of experiencing your baby as a baby and developing that baby into a wonderful dog.
Good luck with your search.
