Hi folks,

Any suggerstions my 10 week old lab eats his poo if i don't get there first. I move it straight away but during the night or if he goes in the garden while i'm doing something else.

I know this is prob normal but it's a bit yucky.

Any ideas?

I've had that problem, I got some tablets called deter from the vets, seems to have helped abit, but whether a 10 week old puppy can take them you'll have to check.

I she fit and healthy other wise? Eating normal amounts? Not 'ribby'? I ask as we had a puppy in classes a year or so ago who would scoff her own and her litter sisters - it turned out she had a bacterial overgrowth which meant she was trying to top up her own 'good bacteria' (as it says in the adverts) in the most natural way, unfortunatly she was fighting a loosing battle and it began to show in her condition - a long course of antibiotics was needed to get her straight again.

Apart from health reasons some dogs do it from a behavioural aspect if they've got the message that humans and dog poo in the same room means bad news for the dog :( Alternatively it could be cause by too rich a diet - which means what comes out of the other end is seen by the dog as a perfectly edible food source - a change of diet could be implicated. Some have had success with the addition of pineapple or courgette to the diet - opinions seem to vary as to why this works - either the added enzymes in make up for a shortage in the diet, or the resulting production is not as tasty.......

Had the same problem so i asked the vet and he said it's just a bad habit and hopefully she'll grow out of it...which she has. Well her new thing is to try to eat horse poo! She was doing it around the same age and she is now 4 months old...good luck

My dogs did the same long time ago and the vet said it's because they needed more fibre on the diet. I started giving them carrots and they stopped but not sure if the maybe just grew out of it?

hi i have a 13 week old lab bitch, doesnt touch her poo or my 4 year olds lab pooh but does try to eat the cats pooh, yuk it makes me feel sick,

Tinned pineapple, put a slice in his/her dinner it really works....
