MB nearly 1 yr old Lab has progressed from eating poo ( which has now stopped) to now retrieving poo and bringing it into the house.

Yesterday I was sitting at the table and she brought in a fresh one and dumped it on my foot

Any ideas on how to discourage this behaviour as do not want to discourage her retrieving !

Is it because she sees me and my husband doing poo patrol so she is in her own little way giving us a helping hand ??

Hi Lucy,
Oooh, that's a tricky ( and smelly!) one for you. Could you try leaving the poos down for a little while and sprinkling loads of pepper on ( I'm assuming she doesn't like pepper on her food) or something else she might find yukky. It might put her off retrieving just the poos only. Also ignore her when she brings them and just praise for the other stuff.

I can't think of anything else.

She has been bringing them in and putting them on her bed for the last two weeks and all I have been doing is walking in picking it up and taking it away ! Not talking or looking at her when I do it !

I will always give lots of praise when we are playing retreive with her proper toys etc !

I must admit though when I looked down and thought 'what is that warm, slightly slimmy thing has she has dropped on my foot ' I screamed :) She ran straight to her bed and looked not told off but had that look of 'oh dear I thought mummy would like that ? ' :)

Hi Lucy,
sorry, I wasn't implying that you didn't normally praise!! :) It sounds like you're already doing what I suggested so can't I add anything new.

I'm not surprised you screamed, I hope you've solved you're own problem by screaming though! :D

Let me know how it goes.

I didn't think that don't worry !:)

I hope the scream may well have solved it but you never know with MB!:)

MB is very upset that he thinks this is unacceptable behaviour !:)

She also wonders why her mummy does as well :)

i think she's trying to please you, so hopefully the scream will have made her think twice! if not, give her a spade and a carrier bag? :D
