i have a 3 year old dobermann bitch, who had a litter of pups 6 months ago, and who is greatly over weight. i also have a liver/tan bitch who is 19 weeks old and a lovely size, but only a week ago i unfortunatly got one of my 6 month old pups back due to the person not being able to look after him, this is not a problem as he is lovely and wouldnt part with him, problem is trying to put 3 year old on a diet which just isnt happening as she is a right gannet, when feeding all 3 for the two young ones who get fed twice a day, and the other cut back to once is torture leaving her out, pluss she allways manages to wangle her way to finishing the other two's food off, they are on rough and ready dry complete. what is the best i can give my 3 year old to help her loose weight, she looks like a 10 year old and looks so misserable, kids dont help with all there tit bits, please help.
Could you give your older girl 2 meals a day, by dividing her food in half, so she doesn't feel as if she's missing out? You could also try adding some water to her food, so it takes her longer to scoff it.
I'm sure more people will be along later with more advice.:)

Soaking the food makes it appear more filling to the dog. My young man thinks he is getting a feed twice as big as usual when i soak his. Just make sure the food keeps its origional shape when it expands i the water. If it turns to mush its no good (cheap and nasty). Most of the mid price range foods soak down nicely, i use Chudleys(Dodson and Horrell) who also produce a lite food for overweight dogs and it is a good extruded food. My lot look great and really enjoy it.
Good luck
