HI
I also did not have a clue apart from ringcraft classes until a few months ago but my brother bought me a book called ' Collins Dog Showing: From Beginners to Winners' by Robert Killick.
I must admit having read it from cover to cover twice it was not of much use to me as my dog GSD (6mths)are not really covered I have been told they have different stands, paces etc but everyone else at my training classes says its wonderful.
hope this helps
Jane
I do not suppose you know of a training showing manual for gsds?
I'm not sure if there is a breed specific book would hold the info you need on showing your GSD.
But some in other breeds do, so I would hope that some GSD books would hold that info for you.
The other method is to go along to dog shows (if you can GSD only shows, commonly called breed shows)
Watch how other handlers show their dogs, if you are allowed perhaps record/tape some of the show
so you can watch it at home.
The other thing when standing the dog if you can invest in a big mirror, and that way you can see
when you stand up the dog a distance away infront of the mirror what picture you are presenting to your judge.
Then you can practise the stand GSD style this way, without the need for other people other than yourself and your dog.
As to pace of the dog, get someone to record you whilst you move your dog at different speeds etc.
Play it back and you'll soon discover which pace looks best for your dog.
If you can perhaps if the breeder of your dog shows their own dogs they could give you some tips.
