hi all, this may seem like a silly quesion but i've never had a dog before and i never knew that chocolate was bad for them( sad but true i watch corrie)i have a jack russell that loves cheese. is it okay to feed him cheese, will too much do him harm. told you it was a silly question but i don't have a clue and i don't want to keep giving it him without knowing. thanks all
I have always used small pieces of cheese as training rewards for my dogs and it does not seem to do any harm. They also get an occasional spoonful of cottage cheese on their meals.
Of course, too much of any food is not good for a dog - moderation in all things!
You could switch to low fat cheese if you think he is putting on weight.
Tooo much hard cheese does tend to constipate them, everything in moderation i'd say:)

Hi Kaytee,
no question is silly if you need to know the answer. :) I agree with the others, it's fine in moderation. Lots of dogs love hard cheese. My Springer loves it when I hide pieces around the room for her to find and I often give her a dollop of cottage cheese on her food.

P.S. I'm a Corrie fan too and I'm quite happy!! :)
I also use small pieces of cheese as training treats - that being the favourite thing! I wouldn't give big pieces of normal hard cheese as part of the daily diet though, as it's supposed to have quite a high salt content.

I use soft cheese to bind together my kong ingredients.

I use Edam as training treats, not so high in fat and stays intact in your pocket.

my house is a nightmare when i put extra cheese and ham on pizza's, all i have to do is open the fridage door take out the ham which is always wrapped in a bag turn around and they are sitting there waiting for a piece, then they do not move until they have had a slice of cheese each.
Dogs go made for it well mine do anyway, and for 6yrs this has done no harm to my dog, i think the only thing i can comment on is how quick the front claws grow, not sure if this has anything to do with the cheese though
