Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Information on registation documents!

After searching someone got in contact with us regarding a puppy. We went to see the pups and fell in love with one (for which we put down a deposit). We didn't read the information on the internet about registation documents before we went. But we were shown pieces of paper with what appeared to be family trees for both mother and father. Does this mean that they are not KC registered? We weren't shown KC registation documentation. Or do they need to be registered to obtain information on family trees in the first place?

Hi,
At a guess I would say you have been shown the parents' pedigrees. These are different to KC registration documents, which breeders receive from the KC (hopefully) by the time the pups are ready to leave. The important thing is that the pups will be KC registered and not DLC registered.

Perhaps you could register with us and you can go into more detail.
:)

Thanks Jeangenie.
I have registered. Should have done from the start really :-)
What's DLC registration?
New to all this but have done my homework on the breed.

Sorry Ginger, the DLC is the Dog Lovers Club and was set up by a retail outlet that sells pups from Puppy Farms and others puppy producers. As most the dogs they sell can not be registered by the Kennel Club they set up their own registration system, some would say to try and fool people into thinking the dogs were registered with the Kennel Club.

And the detail writen on the registration are not worth the paper they are written on, sorry but the dog may be very nice and make a good pet for you but you will have know idea about it's background or even if it is pure bred.

Edit to say there are people who perhaps bred a litter outside the rules of the Kennel Club or from dogs that are not registered and use the DLC registration not knowing any better. Should you wish to show a pup registered with the DLC you will not be able to except at Companion shows. Lets hope that your is registered with the Kennel Club and all will be well.

Hi Ginger,

Because I don't know how much you know about the world of the Kennel Club and it's rules and regulations, it's not easy knowing where to start! :) The only registration worth anything is Kennel Club registration - Dog Lovers Club registration isn't worth the paper it's written on. A litter can only be KC registered if both parents are KC registered (and of the same breed!), and a breeder will usually wait a couple of weeks before sending off the application form for the pups, to hopefully have them back in time for when the pups leave.

You will, however, be shown the pups pedigree (or those of the sire and dam) because that is easily available.

Were the pups advertised as 'KC applied for' or anything like that?

I was told that KC registration for the pups had been applied for. that they had rung her regarding the colouring of one of the pups. But as i said i didn't actually see KC papers for the parents only the pedrigree papers (you told me what they were :-) )
thanks for that info Jeangenie :-)

It all sounds fine then Ginger, lets hope it all goes well and you will soon have your wanted pup.

Thanks for your help both Jeangenie and JackieH.
I'm obviously a born worrier and always expect the worst :-) . Hopefully everything will be fine.

I'm sure this won't be the last time i have question and seeing as i've never had a pup before i'm sure i'll be back to bother you again :-)

Lets hope not eh ;)

Edit - Woooooppppps could be misunderstood, meant hope it is not long before you post again, and not because you have a problem but because you will want to tell us all about your new pup. I hope to have a new pup at the beginning of November too.

Make sure that before you pay any more that you get in writing that the pup is KC registered and that if the papers haven't come when you pick it up that they will send it on. Also make sure that yourself and the breeders signs that this is so.
