Hi i work in a boarding kennels a few days ago a lovely american bulldog came in. This is the first time i have seen one (only ever seen them in books before) He looks like a giant staffie but with a longer muzzle he is from a rescue centre in america but they have bought him back to england. The ones i saw on sites and in books had more of a bull dog face i just wondered if the ones in america are different to the ones over here? He has the most loving temprement loves other dogs a gentle giant i want to take him home!

Hello, I don't own american bulldogs and I am no expert in dogs(only mine!) but I am sure they came in 2 types, one short and stocky and the other like the one you described, taller and slender...am I right anyone?

It sounds like a scot AB you can have Johnson AB which are bully heavier scots and hinds are longer in muzzle more pit bull type and shorter on the leg, i had all this explained me at one of the rallies by the lady her self her and her hubby started the scot lines in America ofcourse.

i watched a breeding program on animal planet all about bulldogs on thursday, and yes they are taller with a longer muzzle, lovely dogs :) apparently the british bred ours with pugs to make them shorter and stockier with a flat face, this program is on every tea time starting at 5pm and a different breed is shown everynight, its interesting, tells you where the breeds originated from and all that :)

I would say he is about as tall as a bull mastiff maybe a bit taller but as i said has the face of a giant staffie with a longer muzzle he is lovely though!
