Has anyone here experienced buying products from Ebay?

I have seen a dog run I like the look of and being an internet novice wanted the wisdom of the forum to point me in the right direction. I am unsure about buying anything from the Internet so whats the best way to start?

Am looking at I think, a freedom Dog Run, anyone have information on them, or the ebay process?

Thanks for helping out. It’s not so long ago when asked about the World Wide Web, my stock answer was “ I have gas and electric” shows you how much I know about these things.

Type EBAY into the search facility here on Champdogs and have a look at the past threads ;)

When you are considering a large product such as this have a look at the sellers feedback, this should tell the opinion of every person they have ever sold to, if you look at the last few feedback comments and click on the item number it will show you what they bought, handy if you want to check if people have bought the dog run and liked it.
Usually the large new products like dog runs are being sold by a company rather than individuals so it is exactly the same as buying from an internet pet shop.
I buy and sell stuff on e-bay all the time, I never buy full price items without checking e-bay first, I recently saved £70 buying a crate and it is fantastic quality, posted in a couple of days.

Would say the same, look at the sellers feed back and check that they have sold before and not just brought on their ratings S= sold B= Brought, if feedback is ok there should not be a problem, I have brought loads of items via the internet shops and ebay and never had a problem, nearly always get a good bargain too. MIght be an idea to check shipping costs too so you don't get caught that way

The company that I know of that imports these runs from the states is doghealth.co.uk check out their site for extra info if you are interested.

I've bought from E-Bay, once I tried to buy a mobile phone from a supplier in the states. We used a system called 'pay-pal' (details of which are on the e-bay site!) We have bought many things off the site and have been pleased with the service...However...This guy in America stopped mailing us with the progress of shipment - Long story short we never heard from him again and surprise surprise no phone (£400 worth!!) But dont be alarmed! the point of my story is that paypal gave us our money back immediately and struck this guy off the site (and carried out their own investigation) It is also a good idea to use a credit card when internet shopping as you are usually covered by your card company. Otherwise I've saved £££'s by internet shopping :)

I am addicted to EBay(Beware!) and have bought 2 leather dog collars for my Bullmastiffs(about £5.00 ea), those double s/s raised food and water bowls, on stand(about £10.00 free post because they ran out of stock and it would be despatched 5 days later), rabbit cage, rabbit food, treat, etc. That's not counting sofa, clothes, table, chairs, lots more furniture, etc. I have regreted the buy a couple of times(clothes) but the worst was 2 pushbikes, new, for £70.00 ea. My hubby's fell apart and he got concusion(spell?). The seller didn't want to know so we asked the EBay forum for help, someone then contacted the seller for us and within a week the seller collected BOTH bikes and we had our money back + postage.

I have found EBAY to be fantastic - you have to be careful though, you can ask the seller any questions, a good seller will happily answer you!
I would reccomend using paypal - it makes life so much simpler and things get going so much quicker!
I would also advise that if you are having things posted to you ensure that you pay to get things insured! I know it sounds stupid but it is possible that things can get lost in the post and alot of sellers wont replace the goods if you don't have them insured!!
If you are looking to buy things with designer labels - BE VERY CAREFUL! - I have been bitten once on this one! I got my own back by reporting the guy to EBAY and the designers and to trading standards!!! He has finally been thrown off EBAY!!!!! (and hopefully taken to court - One of the designers web sites clearly states that any one found using their logo / designs without permission will be dealt with through the courts!!!! - that'll teach him to rip me off lol!!)
Every thing else has been fantastic as everyone has said - check the feed back!
Ebay tends to lead you through the processand is fairly simple to follow,

HAve FUn and Good Luck Bidding!!

I think that I must be the original ebay junkie, bought everything from a three piece suite to a load of kids named wear.I have bought 2 kennels with integral runs one was £100 and the other only 3 months old and the dog a King charles cavalier puppy would not stop howling so it ended up in the house, that one cost me £150 and it was only in the next village.I have now just bought some Frontline on american ebay that is coming from austrailia.I have even been known to set the alarm clock to make sure I was there for the end of an auction.BUT do not make the same mistake as me and get carried away fingers slipped and ended up bidding £5679 for a cooker had to do a quick bid retraction. I would find out how to do that before you start bidding on anything

Hi teabag, what breed dog have you decided on ? I was a late starter on the web too now I wonder how we managed without it.:)

I have bought some really nice items off Ebay and have to admit to spending an incredible amount of time(and money) on it. I have bought all my Christmas cards from America and they arrived quicker than post from the next village. My collection of Beswick horses is slowly growing as well.
I only have two more presents to buy for Christmas, the rest have been bought on Ebay. My postman asked me the other day if I had discovered internet shopping? he had just staggered up the path with two bronze figures.
I am registered with paypal and bidpay, how sad is that?
Hooked I should say so, Jan

The only thing to watch is that more and more untrustworthy people are using ebay to rip people off. I know of several people who have been conned, and unless using credit card or similar you have no chance of getting your money back. Two people I know have tried to complain through proper ebay channels (its all done by email - there is no phone number!) and got absolutely nowhere.

All I would say is check feedbacks very carefully, dont buy from someone with very few feedbacks.
Only spend what you can afford to lose. (one guy I know got ripped off by nearly £2000)
Never agree a sale outside ebay (ie you didnt win the auction but the seller contacts you claiming the winner backed down and offers it to you)
- By Jan Doherty [gb] Date 13.10.03 06:57 UTC
Totaly agree abut the feedback. My friend was looking at computers and when we looked at the feedback there were just too many complaints not to ring warning bells.
- By LlMEY [fr] Date 13.10.03 14:25 UTC
Feedback is key. Not just that they are positive - but that there are a lot of them. I wont bid on aything big unless the seller has hundreds of feedback reports.

I have bid where there has been some negative feed back, it's all relative... if someone has 3 negs out of 500 then thats not a big deal to me. I do look at what the neg comment was though heh.

My experience has been a very positive one, just like in anyting take care... lots of feed back mostly positive I look at like going to the high street... take a chance on someone with little feed bak and its like buying out of a suitcase on the high street....

Regards Dave

all ebay users need to be careful as there is currently a fake ebay email going round requesting account and credit card details, amazingly hundreds of people are falling for it and suppling their c/c details and pin numbers!!!!
