in my local paper today. a disabled lady found her ginger cat crouching in the driveway with half his ear cut off (she later found it in her letterbox) and his collar fastened so tight he could barely breath. a few days earlier he had come home doused in cleaning fluid.
next page.....a woman out walking her dog saw a large dog lying in the road. she is only small and despite cars passing by her was having trouble dragging the poor thing to the side of the road until 2 schoolboys stopped and helped her. she rang the rspca and got their ansaphone. tried the police ...no joy. tried the rspca again...they told her she would have to carry it to her nearest police station. rang police again...they told her it was rspca responsibility. in desperation she rang nearest animal sanctuary (thornberry) steve the owner came out immediately and took the dog in. unfortunately it died the following day from malnutrition. i bl**dy despair at times....i really do. .

There are some really "sick" PERVERTED people out there and no one is safe from them, animals do not act like this just the human race that are the cruel ones some times i hate other humans, it just makes me so sad, keep safe and keep your animals safe :-(

Such sad stories. The last one really annoyed me - 2 public authorities dodging their responsibilities, and the " community leaders" have the nerve to bang on about rights and responsibilities. How about setting an example? Steve did and hes not on TV being lauded for his hard work is he?

Ihave to say that our local police were very good when i found the body of Dobi or Rotti it was hard to tell as this poor dog had been starved and dumped on main road grass verge i did try dog warden but does not work at weekends, rspca not there problem, so rang local force they were great and got some one to pick up body, i never did find out where it had come from.

Some people have no compassion. I can't understand the brigade who say "it's just an animal". Who can treat sentient beings in this fashion?

I can understand that not everyone shares my animal passion but those who are actively cruel must have something missing from their make up. I had to study criminology at uni and we were always having the debate about whether people who do cruel things are mad or bad. Personally I feel that while there are some ill people who have taken leave of their senses that there is a section of the community who masquerade as "normal" but actually to a greater or lesser extent are downright bad. They were born with less "Humanty" than they should have or have become immune to suffering. The maltreatment of animals is often a pre-cursor to inhuman behaviours towards people. I'd nip it in the bud big time! When will the authorities take these incidents seriously and treat them with the severity they deserve?

Now I've got that off my chest... Sorry for the rant but it gets me very worked up.:(

steve sold his home and lived in a caravan for 5 yrs whilst thornberry was being built. he never turns an animal away and relies on peoples generosity to keep it afloat.
