Has anyone ever tried this recipe for their dogs?On all the websites i have seen they claim that it puts weight on dogs in a matter of days,i made a batch last night and my dogs went wild for it,the bonus is that it is all raw,my dogs usually turn their nose up to raw meat:( I was wondering if it has any nutritional value as it states that it is a complete food for our dogs? One thing confused me tho,one of the ingredients is "1 box of cereal" does anyone know what this means? To me cereal is cornflakes:) Here is the recipe; 4.5 kilo hamburger mince
1 lge. box oatmeal(uncooked)
10 eggs
1 1/4 cup molasses
1 box cereal- what type of cereal?
1 jar wheatgerm
1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
10 small packs unflavoured gelatin
pinch of salt

I would really appreciate your input on this,I am also not sure of the amounts to feed,i have 2 shih-tzu's-6.4k(9mths) and 5.4k(3yrs.),the lighter one needs to gain a little weight, how can a 9mth. puppy weigh a kilo more than an adult?

Hi Christine,
looks very nutritious to me! I haven't a clue about the cereal though. Perhaps you could just make it without that as it already has oatmeal in it. Which websites is it on? Could you email them?
Don't know about amounts either (not much help am I?).It looks a big amount to make at once unless it's frozen, wheatgerm goes rancid quite quickly.

Kath.

Edit: I've just done some sleuthing and come up with recipes for this that say "1 large box of Total cereal (MUST be Total)" which is an (American?) fortified breakfast cereal.

Hi Kath,
I halved the amounts of everything, you would have to mix it in the kitchen sink if you were to make the full amount LOL,using half i made 12 freezer baggies.i just typed "satin ball recipe" in my search engine and it came up with heaps of hits. i bought the most natural cereal i could find,so that will have to do for now.

Christine,

The recipe looks like it contains way too much sugar (the molasses) and too much fat - so no wonder dogs like it. :-) FYI, total cereal is a vitamin fortified flake, if I remember correctly it contains a mix of different grains.

Your puppy may weight more than your adult because he is going to be large for a Shihtzu, or, your adult may be small for the breed. If you can just feel your dogs ribs when you press lightly on their sides, your dogs are at their proper weight - regardless of their age or what the breed standard may say.

Hello. Is it ok to give meat mixed with oatmeal for the dogs?

Hello! Thank you Jeangenie.
Can it be readybreak? So is it really good for them? I feed my dogs on raw meat now but my girl likes the dry food, and she lost some weight so maybe I'll give her oatmeal as well with the meat?

I wouldn't give Readybrek because of all the additives (sweeteners etc). Simple plain porridge oats is better.

Ok, thanks.
