I was just about to post about something like this myself but thought I may aswell add it to this thread :) Just seen an ad in the Ad-Trader for Bulldog x Staff pups £800    I assumed it was a late April fool

And then people wonder why dogs end up with bad stigma's attatched. Poor pups. If they inherit the down sides of both breeds they're buggered.
And to charge that! Christ its double what i ask for as well bred as i can get pups! Its rediculous how folk use dogs to make money!

"Why are people making money out of X-breds......just because the average person is stupid enought to pay the money I guess!!!!"

That's exactly the reason manda. If theres 'easy' money to be made there will always be takers who couldn't care less about the consequences. The mess is left to others to clear up.

Until the reward is outweighed by the risk of penalty it will continue.

The only attack on this type of business I can think of is to petition the newspapers etc carrying the ads - use letters pages, their opposition papers if they wont print your letter, don't know it's just something that comes to mind. Need to make the penalty to the benefitter [ie the publication/shop] outweigh the benefit of the revenue from the ads - reduced sales, other advertisers withdrawing adverts because of pressure to move to alt brand etc. I can see problems like the 'accident' mating, how to help those people... aprt from neutering/spaying of course - don't have all the answers, and maybe my suggestions are so much hot air. One voice wouldn't be enough, but a group - say breeders, or breed organisation, KC, RSPCA, or a group like this one could do something. One step at a time...?

One thing we could all do when we see this sort of advert, with telephone nos etc - would be to phone up, get an address - then pass the details on to the Inland Revenue! If all these breeders thought that the taxman was after them, it might stop one or two - which would be a start!

Welcome to the Zoo, my friends
Where things are a little out of whack
You see, someone left the gates unlocked
And the animals never looked back

They threw a mighty party
And this thing led to that
And the Numbat found a Bandicoot
And made a Bandibat

The 'Roo and the Parrot, with a nod and a wink
Made a Kangatoo
And the Dingo scored the 'Roo's best girl
And made a Dingaroo

The Cockie found a nice young Bear
And, whoops, a Koalala
And where Red-Bellied Black Bears come from
You don't have to look too far

The Mouse and his fantastic mate
Had a brood of Mouseyip young
And the Lizard and the Tassie Wolf
Made a Tassie Tiger-Tongue

And the Razor-Back and the Hippo
Created quite a fuss
'Cos there's not many Zoos that can proudly boast
A Piggypotamus

It was quite a sight when the Hairy-Nose
Drank the water, ridgy-didge
And, in five minutes flat, we had ourselves
A Wombaturrimbidgee!!

Sadly these people aren't the fools (they may be lots of other things) . They are cunning enough to make a quick killing and run. The fools are the sad "punters" who buy these tragic "penis-extentions" (am I allowed to say that!!!). I am afraid the only answer is - EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE and REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.
My local Environmental Health Officer (a dog lover and a very kind man) was despairing the production of the (mainly) unregistered dogs that he has the sad task of picking up and assigning to their fate. I am sure there are many other local authority EHO like him who would take up complaints or at least put the finger on iffy "breeders" who burden the system.
