My Buddy (Male Westie) has had several of these orange crusty lumps mainly on his legs, under body, nose and a couple on tips of his ears. I get a medicated shampoo from the vet which helps. He had the same problem last year which i thought was food related but when he started with them Aug/Sept this year i thought it had to be more of an environmental thing. Turns out the crusty lumps are due to grass mites as he loves to run through and generally sniff around in long grass. If any of the scabs come away when i'm grooming him i usually apply a squirt of dettol antiseptic spray to keep the area clean. The scabs are only small and he's hairy so you can't see them but have to feel for them.
Hope this is some help to you.

thanks for the reply i will give the medicated shampoo a try thanks. I feed my fella on the science plan so i know its not the food as i dont give him anything else. I do think you are right with the grass mites.
