Sorry i've not been on here for what seems like an age!

Just a little brag about my 'male' dog, who i've been very lightly showing since he was 18 months.....

'Storm' has gained his S.B.No. by coming third in Limit at WKC, and winning Limit at Yellow Lab Club!!!!!

What's the big deal, you ask?

Well, those who can remember my posts about him before, will remember that he was neutered as a puppy for medical reasons. Didn't think I'd ever show him. Got fed up with seeing dogs at local shows winning BOBs etc, and thinking that my boy was at least as good as them, so applied for permission.
Didn't just throw him up into Limit - he's won his way up there, starting in Maiden, and Novice.

Don't know of anyone else showing a castrated lab, so I'm sure I've been laughed at behind my back (I have received comments to my face!!).

So to all who told me it was a waste of time and he should be 'got rid of' or 'left at home', we've proved you wrong! (Can't put in text two fingers sticking up! :-) )

So, sorry to brag - just couldn't resist!

Well done! That's a real achievement, especially in a breed with such large classes!

I show my co-owned neutered Australian Shepherd, although mainly at Open Shows, due to time constraints. He was neutered for medical reasons, but there are people out there who think he shouldn't be shown and I have to put up with comments to that fact..... He is as good as anything out there, if not better, and although older now (he is 8), he loves to show and still has that ''look at me attitude'', so I just think, while he enjoys it, why shouldn't he go, and he has been a big learning curve for me, teaching me how to show him properly........
He also qualified for Crufts next year again, and we hope if he stays well and fit, that we will be there.......

Is it possible to show neutered dogs ? the reason I'm asking is that I've a 3 year old bulldog who was castrated , he's a real handsome chap , when I got him I didn't have the showing bug but now I' ve reserved another and hope to start with the new addition next year . I spoke to his breeder who said he couldn't be shown but saw your post and thought I'd ask the question just to satisfy my curiosity?

If you want to show him you will need to get a letter from your vet & then send this with a letter requesting to be allowed to show him to the Kennel Club before you enter him at shows. When you get permission you will need to take a copy of the KC letter with you to shows to show to the judges

Moonmaiden if you read the post properly you will see that permission was applied for and granted. Well done to Storm and by the way love the name i had a shepherd bitch called Storm fab name. Big Big congrats.

I did read your post & was replying to Ajacks post not yours Ace There was no need to be rude. By the way I was the first person to show a dog(well bitch in fact) that had been neutered after they changed the rule from dogs had to have progeny registered at the KC in order to be still be able to shown after being neutered.

If you look on the Kennel Club website, one of the forms you can print off is an application to show a castrated dog. I printed one a while ago when I was planning to have my dog castrated, though have changed my mind now!

well good for you!! didn't know you could show a dog without dangly bits but hey what do I know? Well done mate!! Go out there and show them all (pardend the pun!!!) It should be about the confiirmation of the dog and nothing else, if he's good he's good. So What you may not want to breed from him any way. Well done again :-)

You do not need a vets letter for permission to show if the operation was neutering. The form or a note from you to ask for permission will be all you need, but wait for the permission to come before starting to show.

You could still send confirmation from your vet that the dog has been castrated as otherwise dogs with retained testicles or none could be given permission to be shown if the owner just declares that the operation had been done ;) Not that anyone would ever do such a thing of course :o would they ;) plus it speeds things up

A friend just printed off the form & the KC took ages to clear her dog for being shown while they waited for the vet to confirm it ! and the very nice chap at the KC told her if she had sent in a letter with the form it would have been done virtually by return of post!
