I am looking into getting a Japanese Akita (not inu), but i have an oriental and a siamese cat. Would it be possible in introducing an Akita pup into a cat environment. My cats have lived with big dogs before and are used to them. Thanks for your help

Do not quote me but in most books I have read and from speaking to owners and breaders they do mention Akita's getting along with cats (Akita's are very cat like themselves). I believe there is better way for introduction ie old Cat then new dog or vise versa.

Are there any Akita/Cat owners out there?

Our cat was about 8 when we bought our Akita. They get along OK, although the cat (now 14) isn't exactly thrilled by his presence. She was used to my other dogs who usually tried to get to know her once, got scratched & gave up. The Akita never even noticed if he was scratched, so didn't give up & tends to be very much 'in her face' which she doesn't appreciate.
I wouldn't trust him an inch with other people's cats tho'.

I dony have a cat but know that my akita always goes for the neighbours cats. Not sure what she would do if she got to them - she is boisterous and may just want to say hello
