no don't feed her cos her coat might get messed up for the show ,getting a trophy is far more important after all what would you have to brag about if your sharpei does'nt win .
- By dizzy [gb] Date 05.10.03 18:24 UTC
you might be right-------but then again, if i fed her god knows what she might win then :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.10.03 18:26 UTC
You're absolutely right as always, Shaunie, because it's obvious that a fit, healthy, properly-nourished dog would never win a prize!
- By dizzy [gb] Date 05.10.03 18:28 UTC
suppose i could chance feeding her--then if she got dirty i could just take her through the car wash in her "CAGE" in the car with my boot left open, whatya think shaunie ?????

Um - I think everyone else is laughing WITH dizzy and AT you. Once again you are confusing which one of you is being laughed at and looking silly.

Wendy
(who at some point is going to get kicked off the board for all my responses in this thread, but I could care less if you're going to keep writing on the board - I would say 'contributing' but that would be an incorrect use of the word)
- By Wendy J [gb] Date 05.10.03 20:53 UTC
A phrase about pots and kettles comes to mind.

Hmm - can't think why??

Wendy

- By gundogsrbest [gb] Date 05.10.03 19:38 UTC
hi sara, back to the original post, i know that working dogs and show /pet dogs are different, but our vans at work have notices all over them saying stay away security dogs etc to warn people what is inside, you wouldnt need to put something like that but at least people would be warned and its their look out then if they do get bitten, and if their children get bitten they should be keeping a closer eye on them esp at a dog show, we were always told to ask before stoking but unfortunely people dont now, children rush up and even with the most bomb proof f dogs you will never know how they react. hope this helps
- By SaraW [gb] Date 05.10.03 20:08 UTC
Hi Thanks for your reply :)

Maybe I should consider a carefully worded sign.
- By Wendy J [gb] Date 05.10.03 20:35 UTC
Perhaps something like 'for the safety of the dogs please keep your distance' that way it doesn't imply your dogs are mean.

(gosh it took a long time to get to this post!!)

Wendy
- By SaraW [gb] Date 05.10.03 20:42 UTC
that seems good sensible wording Wendy :)

They probably wouldn't do anything but it is something I think alot of us who are in this postition should consider. I'm at Northern Golden next Sat at Newark so will take a look about and see what anyone else does about signs or anything.

Thanks for trawling through the thread and giving your input :)
- By mentalcat [gb] Date 05.10.03 22:51 UTC
Wendy,
I think that that's very sensible wording. (When I first joined this group, I thought that everypost would be a sensible one - boy was I wrong, It's better than the telly!!).
Without wanting to start the whole thing up again I would just like to point out that its not just show dogs that travel in cages (not that I have anything against them- 'nuff respect to the showing chaps out there!"), My working labs travel and stay in crates/cages and are more than happy to do so.
Ali :);)

Would you be at fault? Morally no, legally yes!

Shaunie, do you really have time to be posting here? Shouldn't you be off at the supermarket buying mass produced meat which no animal suffered to make?

Shaunie, if you or your kids stick your fingers in the bars of a dogs crate, and get bitten, i hope it will teach you to use some common sense in future........certainly there is no better diet for a dog than the fingers of annoying persons and their offspring!

LOL - you'd like to think people would discuss things sensibly wouldn't you LOL. Unfortunately not so.

As for using a crate - I used one before I ever started showing. But that (according to Shaunie in a post on crating) makes you and me evil, cruel and selfish - see it's not just the showing folk she berates! It's basically anyone who raises a dog in any way different than she would:(

If we stop off for lunch when we are out with the dogs for the day we park the car where we can see it and leave the tailgate open. We put little padlocks on the crate(s) so that no one can open them - I wouldn't leave the car and dogs like that out of sight but any kid "dangerously out of control in a public place" near my car and dogs would get a very stentorial reminder to keep off! Even if we eat in pub garden we put the dog(s) in a crate by our table rather than have them loose - I trust my dog but I don't trust other people's kids.
It takes just one weirdo or roaming kiddie!!!
- By SHAUNIE [gb] Date 06.10.03 18:46 UTC
i have never used the word evil so you should get your facts right before you land yourself in hot water!!!!
- By Rozzer [gb] Date 06.10.03 20:49 UTC
Personally I think a sign, however carefully worded, is a bad idea. I agree with an earlier post that it can be seen as though you are warning for a reason - not that I agree with this but it is the reality when situations come down to legalities (of course worse case scenario.) The one question this post has raised for me is would our car/pet insurance providers pay out if the car was broken into or stolen (or worse the dog stolen) with it not being properly secure??
Sarah

Hi Sarah

>>>>>>>>>The one question this post has raised for me is would our car/pet insurance providers pay out if the car was broken into or stolen (or worse the dog stolen) with it not being properly secure??

With my car the back tailgate is shut and the car locked - it is just the window in the tailgate that opens and access cannot be gained because the cage is made to measure and can't be got out coz the door is locked if you see what I mean. Also the cage doors can't be opened because of the tailgate either so no access to get the dogs out. But there is maybe a loop hole in the insurance ............

Sara :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.10.03 21:25 UTC
If there is indeed a loophole in the insurance you can be sure the insurers will find it.....:(
- By Rozzer [gb] Date 06.10.03 21:40 UTC
Pesky insurers!! Mind you when my car was broke into recently all I got was a crime ref number, no questions asked...I didn't need to claim on my insurance but if I was of dishonest nature I dare say the odd golf club set could sneak its way into the boot! :D (only kidding mind!)
JG is right though...Any old loophole.
Sarah.
