My family and I are interested in this breed but are unable to find any breeders in the UK. We presently own a Standard Schnauzer 4yrs and a Miniature Schn. 4yrs. Our children are 2yrs and the other is 7 months so we are not looking for a new addition until perhaps next Autumn. Any information on breeders in this country would be most useful. Thank you.

It's not a breed Guest, it's a mongrel or cross breed. The rescues are full of Lab crosses.

Think the reason you can not find any breeders is becausee there is no such breed.

Labrador CROSS poodle = labradoodle....theres no such breed. Just falls into the same catagory as Bullsh*ts, cockapoos etc etc.

Edited to say: Have just had a look, and someone posted this quite a while back on this messageboard:

"I have just received the August "Dogs Today" and there is a labradoodle breeder listed. Her name is Carol Hurst and her telephone number is 0191 3874616 (e/w)."

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Posted this before, the sort of breeders who breed mongrels and crossbreeds are not, because of the fact that they do breed crossbreeds, careful breeders. Careful breeders care about the breed(s) they breed and trying to improve on the stock they have, they breed to the standard, they make sure that the stock they are breeding from have had all the necessary tests for that breed. Crossing dogs can and does bring out the health problems of both/all breeds, so make sure they have been health tested if you really must encourage these breeders to continue to produce these candidates for the rescue centres, their only reason for breeding these dogs is money. Talking of rescue centres why not get your crossbreed from one and give the poor dog a home, at least you will know what it will look like if it is an adult.

Why are you interested in the Labradoodle? There are many breeds that look similar, which may actually resemble what you want every time, because of course with a cross breed you can never be too sure what you are going to get.

I'm curious as to why you should want a crossbreed (nothing against them, they can be lovely dogs) because you never know what characteristics of their parents they are going to inherit. To many people that is their charm, of course!

For example, many people believe that a "Labradoodle" will not moult, because that is a poodle characteristic. However the pup is just as likely to inherit the moulting gene from its labrador parent. It's a 50-50 chance.

If you need a particular characteristic in a dog, it is best to focus on the purebreeds that show that trait.
