I am so sickened I just had to write. I live in the south and have just received the Daily Echo. It shows what was a beautiful golden Cocker Spaniel being dragged out of a river. The poor creature had a 10 kg dumb-bell tied to her collar. :-( Why do people do such awful things to other living beings? The police and RSPCA say that whoever did this could get 6 months in prison. I hope so.
6 months isnt long enough IMHO, Rachael.

They should tie a heavier dumb bellto whoever did that and throw them into the river.
Sorry, I know its harsh, but hpw can somone do that???????
Even if they didnt want the dog and couldnt be bothered to take her to a rescue centre, there are other things they could havce done that would have meant somone else would have taken her to one :(
Words fail me :(

That is absolutely awful....they need a damn sight more than 6 months is you ask me. What on earth is the world coming to
Surely, if someone finds themselves in the situation where they cannot afford to keep their animal, or just no longer want it, for whatever reason, they should just give it to someone who will take care of it for them. It makes my blood boil to read story after story, about poor animals ending up like this - when it is going to change???

And the sad thing is horrible things like this are not isolated incidents :(
Did anyone hear on the news today of the chap who was trapping cats in his garden and clubbing them to death so they wouldnt go near his wifes birds ??? :(

I used to live by a man who was "reputed" to trap and kill cats as well. I only found out after I got my cat Archie and a neighbour told me he had being doing it for years apparently and because no one could prove it nothing was done. But to be honest I think he did do it, although I couldn't prove it. I moved shortly after and before Archie was old enough to be out without supervision.

Oh Lel - Aww that's awful! I mean, the mind boggles....are these people just evil??

unfortunely the pennial system is total and utter hogwash, a child sex offender can get off with just 18 mths but then get out earlier for good behaviour, you get longer for bank robbery,
its disgusting what some people do, i feel terrible if my lab tess cries if you accidently step on her, she probably lays in the way on purpose thou as she gets a treat without having to work for it :D

I am in complete agreement with you - the justice system in this country is an absolute joke :( How can stealing some money warrant more punishment than raping a baby  Madness!!

I cant understand people like this! i mean what the hell were they thinking?!!! what went thru their minds as they carried the 10lb weight and tied it to the dog?! further more WHY?! There are soooo many places they could have taken her. One phone call the the RSPCA and they would have collected her.
Its awful to think there are people like that amongst us they need something the same as their body weight fastening to them and then throw them in a river, let them feel what it was like to be frightened and scared trying to get some air! :|
Poor girl! maybe she is in doggy heaven now with all her pups, she cant have been happy living with them if thats what they did in the end! *thinking of you gal!* :)
Grrrrrrr!

I know you warned us but I just had to look and now wish I hadn't, seeing the report just makes the horror real, it truly is unbelievable that anyone can do this and there is absolutely reason other than having a deranged and cruel mind.
I hope they are caught and punished as harshly as possible , although 6 months sounds way too little.
I am glad to see the Sun encouraging people to identify the person responsible.

I read it at work in the Daily Mirror and I can say how sick I felt, to see that poor innocent dog in the paper. How could anyone be so cruel to a dog, and a pregnant one at that? They should be treated like they would be if they had done it to a human. What makes people do such terrible things to animals ??
They should be hunted down and locked up for life. Banning someone from owning pets and locking them up for afew months is not punishment...its a joke.
I just wanted to come home and hug my 2 Cavaliers when I read it, they mean the world to me.

I dont get the paper....but would be interested to read about it...are ther any links that might take me to it?
What a tragic story, I wish I could say it will be the last...but I think we all know that similar things will take place again by similarly sick people.

I read the Sun yesterday and after I read about the poor dog I put that page in the bin before my daughter got home for school. I would not have liked to try and explain why the dog died, why did the people do that to it, why could we not have got it before it died, why did they ect ect. I hope the people involved in this killing get what they deserve but not the jail but to lock them up in a room with just a few dog lovers me included and see how they like a good beeting then tossed into a canal. These b*****ds dont deserve to live in this world.
God love the bitch and her puppy's as they won't be harmed anymore.

They have dona a post mortem on the poor dog and found that she was dead before she went into the water. They don't yet know how she died. It doesn't make it any better - what they did to her. It was hardly a dignified end for such a beautiful creature. There is quite a significant reward fund now to find whoever did this so I hope that will loosen tongues. I would like to see these evil people brought to justice

I, also read about the post mortem of the poor dog already being dead. The tabloids are still priting her picture. I guess, someone somewhere will know who she once belonged to. People should come forward withought being offered a reward.
I think, this story has shocked the hardened of hearts. Im still in shock and finding it hard to forget the picture...
Im still hoping shes at peace.

Dont want to be offensive, but Im glad she didnt struggle and drown in the water. This relief will probably be short lived when her true cause of death is established. My heart goes out to her former owner - on the understanding her owner wasnt the perpetrator.

I wondered if maybe she had been stolen, I cant believe anyone would own such a beautiful dog and then kill it like this, but I suppose it she had been stolen the owners would have come forward by now.

We had a lovely long coated young GSD that came through our rescue He had been dumped in the middle of a deep fishing lake tied to building blocks with his lead. Fortunately the lead was leather & it stretched allowing his head to be on the surface. He was rescued by the owner of the lake & went to our kennels & ended up working for the Manchester Parks Wardens
The lake owner said they must have rowed out in a boat before pushing him overboard This was before the days of tattoos & microchips
His temperament & character never changed & he lived a very long life with his handler & best friend

I just can't understand why people do it. There are so many other options. It's a horrible thought but I can't help thinking they do it cos they get a kick out of it. It makes me sick
