Hi I have a 13 week old black lab he has puppy beta compleate , as a treat now and then I would like to give him some 'real' meat, but my neighbour (has 2 dogs) said not to give him any kind of pork and turkey as it will give him an uppset tummy is this right? This is my 1st puppy so I have not got a clue on the food front.

Well,
Mine have all been fine with raw turkey and pork.....including a 6 week old pup.......however giving a new pup strange foods that it is not accustomed to, too quickly CAN result in an upset tummy/runny bottom. Go carefully, introduce new foods slowly, and you should be fine.

My Springers all have occasional pork, Usually on a Sunday, and 2 of those are only 11weeks old. I havent had any problems as long as i have a peg near by for my nose that evening, as it seems to give them the most horrendous wind!!!!!!!

Be careful, not because the turkey or pork will necessarily upset him, but once he gets a taste of "real food" you may find he turns his nose up at complete! :).

Yes i always thought pork was a no no for dogs, but just the other day our new pup fished some rib bones out of the bin and scoffed them before i could retreive them from him...............so far so good,no ill effects and poo's still nice and firm, lol. However, give him a little tinned dog meat and it goes through him like a porche, lol.

Hi,
Years ago our vet told us not to give pork to dogs, something about them not being able to digest it properly. I can't remember exactly what was said now. :(

I've heard that Pork is very difficult to digest, not just for dogs but for people too :( It could be an old wives tale, but apparently most people (non-veggies of course) have up to 5lb of undigested meat in their bowel, mainly pork :)
Mmm nice thought...not

A long time ago my Gia developed a horrible rash on her back legs and the vet asked what I was feding her, I said I just started giving her pork as a treat and he said that was it. The rash went as soon as I stopped giving pork to her.

My dogs eat pork regularly with no ill effects, raw.
