Heeeeeeeeelp !!!!

My husband and i are desperatly after a westie. The only problem we face is that we both work during the day, so 'stevo' would be left on his own, with the exception of a neighbour popping in.

we've had good and bad feedback as to what to do, some say that leaving it with plenty of toys, a warm bed, the run of the house, and radio on, would still make him happy, but some say its still very unfair!...... so it lies at 50/50!

so we've been going round in circles as to what to do. - can anyone offer some more advice!

I've been in your situation in the past and funnily enough I had a Westie at the time. I felt terrible guilt about leaving him during the day but he seemed to cope very well. I gave him toys, run of the garden, radio on etc etc and he was always a bundle of joy and energy and didn't appear to suffer (but I guess as he couldn't talk, I will never truly know). However, we did get a companion also for him so that kind of assauged my guilt somewhat.

However, I'm in a position now where I am at home an awful lot and my partner can also take the dogs to work with him when necessary (well, he can take the older dog but the pups can't go out yet) and now I have to say that should our circumstances change in the future and we were both out all day and were considering buying a dog, I wouldn't because I still feel it's unfair to the dog.

Sorry if I haven't been much help with this, just sharing my thoughts...at the end of the day, you can only do what you feel is right and do your best for your dog...good luck with your decision.
