If by papers you mean Kennel Club registration then yes only the breeder can register a dog.
Amanda, as I undertand things, only the breeder can register your pup.

Do you mean her pedigree papers, i.e a list of her sire, dam, their sire and dam etc, or do you mean kennel club papers.
Either way there is not a lot you can do unfortunatly. Did you question the breeder before you bought your pup?
Only the breeder can register the pup, you can merely change the name on the ownership, and pedigree papers...wel, they dont say a whole lot anyway to be honest as anyone can draw one up....but you are a bit stuck if you havent got those.
Why not register and give us a few more details.

I too bought a pedigree pup (Gordon Setter) in July . He is now 18 weeks old and despite more than one request from me, and subsequent promises from the breeder, I have yet to receive Kennel Club registration for him.
What do I do now?

Hi Pipsqueak.
How exactly did the breeder guyarantee your KC papers? Spoken, or written? If she gave you written prof that they will be on their way, then give them time (you could ring the KC in the meantime to find out if they actually do exist.
If it was a spoken guarantee then if she doesnt present them, you dont really have a leg to stand on unfortunatly. Ring the KC either way to see if they can help. State the breeders KC name and ask if there are any such papers.
Good luck

Hello Steph,
unfortunately no, there was no written guarantee of K.C. registration, although she is as far as I can ascertain , a reputable breeder and shows her dogs on a regular basis all over the country(including Cruft's). On the occasions I have telephoned , she has assured me that I will get the papers and that she has 12 months to register the litter anyway! It must be about 7 weeks since I last rang her, when she told me it'd be a couple of weeks or so. The delay may well be due to the fact that she has her hands full in running her boarding kennel and showing but that is no consolation to me!

The delay may be down to the Kennel Club. They quite often get behind, and also make mistakes with names etc. which means resubmission by the breeder. If you are worried, 'phone the Kennel Club and ask what the turn round time for registrations is at present.
Thanks Fillis,
I shall give it another few days and then ring K.C., although I rather suspect it is more a case of disorganisation and tardiness on the part of the breeder than any backlog at K.C.

hi there, I have just got my papers today (thankfully). The breeder rang the kennel club while i was there on collecting my pup last week and they told me exactly when they issued reciepts for recieved forms from breeder and what dates reciepts papers they were printing that day. They could tell me exactly what day my papers were going to be printed.
I did however still insist on a copy of the reciept and copies of both mom and dads k.c papers. Ring the KC straight away they are very helpfull. xx
