It has recently come to light that the Kennel Club's Official Affix Directory is incomplete. Although you pay £10 for the directory, not all affixes are listed in it. Those of you that have affixes might like to check to see if your own is included? I think it would be interesting to know just how many affixes are missing from the publication. We have emailed the KC on several occassions and asked for an explanation as to why some affixes are not listed and still wait for a response. Understandably, newer affixes may not be included as the publication is yearly so it will always been in arrears to some degree. We can see no reason why affixes that have been maintained for many years are missing from this book. £10 is a lot of money to pay for something that is not a true record :-)

I have never checked mine ....but I have had mine now for a year , it would interesting to find out ;)

Do you know I have not only never looked for mine I don't recall ever looking at the book at all. Can some one tell me what information does it give on the holder of an affix. Is it just the name or does it include the breeds or contact details.

Affix and name only

Thanks, think I'll keep the tenner in my pocket.
Think I'll keep my tenner in my pocket, too. Why would anyone want to put their name in a book that doesn't actually do anything? Seems a waste of time and effort to me.

Hello,
I am not 100% certain on this but I am reasonably sure you have to agree to go in the book don't you and I vaguely in the back of my mind think there is a fee to be in the book.
Don't shoot me down if I'm wrong though. :D

No you don't have to agree to be in the book or have to pay any fee. The affix book is just meant to be a record of all affixes granted by the Kennel Club, though its out of date as soon as its printed as new affixes are approved all the time, plus as Admin says it seems there have been omissions (though mine is in there present & correct :-) )

I bought the affix directory a month ago to see if some new ones were listed (last bought one 18 months ago) and there were no updates.
Waste of £10!

If it gave the breeds conected with the affix I would happy to hand over 2 x tenners, but what use is a name and a affix. If you know the person you can ask if you don't know then the book will be as much used as a telephone directory without numbers.
I suppose it would come in handy when you were choosing an affix yourself or naming a litter, as it would prevent duplicating someone elses affix, but I've managed to live without the Directory so far and can't see myself rushing out to buy one now......especially since it would appear not to be complete!

Hi Jackie,
I understand a bit about getting an affix and have been considering it for a while now, I know about the price, submitting three choices and yearly upkeep etc. But what are the for's and against's of having one, i'm a little vague in this area- The only advantage that I can see is being able to keep track of your puupies if you breed.

It means that people interested in your breed can tell - a/ if you bred the dog and - b/ if you have bought it in. It just lables a dog as yours and whether or not you bred it.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.
