Hiya
Both our dogs are speyed as they are rescues and we couldn't show them. But as we want to show the pup we will have to deal with seasons, someone told me they last 4 weeks, but my mum said when she used to have the dacshunds they only lasted about a week. Does it depend on size or anything, she's a sheltie. Also does anyone use the jab to prevent seasons as a friend of mine did, but it didn't work and she found herself at a week long agility show not being able to compete. Are there any negatives to the jab. Thanks
Gina

Hi Gina,
The average length of a season is 21 days, regardless of breed, but the bitch is likely to be fertile for only one week out of those three - but it varies as to which few days that will be! I suggest you get "The Book of the Bitch" by White and Evans which will tell you all you should need to know about living with a bitch.

one of mine had the injection to stop it as she was staying at my freinds and we dident want it to be messy" she was only 6 but she never came into season ever again after that. i still dont know why, she had regular seasons before that.
