Hi all
Does anyone know of any good web sites that advertise Dog Kennels, I'm not sure what I want so I'm looking for a site that is quite descriptive,a good variety & has pictures if poss.

Have a look at Treetops Kennels, I do not know how to do links, but if you put it in search it will come up

Are you talking about boarding kennels or just plain old dog kennels that you dog can live in at home.

Hi FrankieB
Plain old Dog Kennels, I can't decide whether to opt for the wooden variety of to have a concrete version built, so I need some ideas to give me some inspiration.

www.simply-summerhouses.co.uk do some good looking ones

If you do a search on this forum for kennels you will see a load of suggestions

Or you can build your own! - its not difficult and I am sure I could knock up a plan of what I did for mine

Hi Timb,
if you could do that I would appreciate it.

I have built some of my kennels out of pallets but it does take quiet a while to do and I also use garden sheds depending on the size you need 6 x 8 or 8 x 10 are good then board the side using hardboard and fit a strip light add bench beds and blankets and away you go.

Hi Dozeydanes,
Thanks for the suggestion, that does sound quite a good idea, I've 2 sons who both work in the building trade, thats why I was considering a concrete type kennel (but trying to get them to do anything at home is a major achievement) at least with a a shed thats reinforced the way you describe alot of the works already done.
Thanks to everyone else who replied also.

I would agree with the shed conversion route. I have bought a pent shed and plan to knock together 3 panels made out of 2x2 wood with weldmesh to form a run. Total cost should be around £150. Most 'dog houses' with runs are well over £300. I have been told cow mats are good for the floor of the shed, ask your local farmer to get you one!! Anyone any thoughts on insulating?

If anyone is interested I can send a picture of our kennel and run. We just had it done a couple of months ago. We got a shed company to build the shed same price as a shed but alter some of the specifications. It was not a cheap shed I have to say but you could not move it with out 4 strong men. It has 2 windows, 2 sets of stable doors. we bought 11 x 2 metre panels for Kingstown 2 of which have locking doors.

Concrete platforms were laid and drainage put into both. Roof is corrigated plastic roofing.

It did cost us about £1500 I think but the concrete platform is I think about 5 metres by 2.5 metres and it is concelled type drainage.

It is really quite nice and was talk of the neighbours for a bit LOL about how posh the dog house was. Certainly considering they are only in it a couple hours a day and sleep in the house with us... :-) I think they enjoy being out their in the fresh air.

Hi Pam

Can you e-mail me a pic of your dog house, I would be interested to see it. Also, I have seen the panels you mentioned at kingston, seem quite reasonable, (£18 for 6x5 panel). Did you need to pay for delivery or are you local to them? If you paid delivery, how much out of interest?

Hi BigD,

I will mail them to you tonight as don't have any pcs on my work PC or laptop.

Delivery if I rember right was free or it was not more than £20 :-) it was a veyr small amount or I would have remembered. They were for me the cheapest based on the quality I could find and I hunted for a good few months. Oh BTW they are miles from me, I am in Scotland they are somewhere down south.

I will mail asap tonight.

House building cavity insulation is really good we used that when we built our last house, it is like foom inside a plastic liner , no glass fiber.

We don't have any but our dogs are inside at night time.

We bought 2 off e-bay both were the type with the covered runs, one cost £100 and is really solid, with heavy weld mesh run. the other has the 5x4 kennel with the 6x5 run that was £150 it has been used 2 night for a cavalier King charles that howled all night so became a house dog.
