Topic Dog Boards / Health / Has anybody tried Pigment Plus ?

Has anybody tried 'Pigment Plus' from Animal Health for Snow Nose ?

I would be interested to know if anybody had any success and how long it took for any noticable change.

Thanks

Lucy

Edited to say I asked for any feedback from the company and they said it wasn't a big seller which isn't surprising as Snow Nose is not a common condition but they had never had any bad or good feedback at all. I have brought some as want to try and get Moose's nose back to it former colour so will let you know if I have any success.

Just to give you an update, Moose has started to show a marked improvement on her pigment re the Snow Nose.

She has been taking the pigment plus for nearly three weeks now and it is slowly making a difference !!!:)

(not that anybody was interested as it is a rare condition ! )

Lucy,

Rare or not...

We now know so thanks for posting it and certainly the feedback. I will store this info in the back of my head now somewhere :-).

Glad you see an improvement..

Hi Lucy,
I'm interested!! I've never heard of it before. What causes it and what's in the Pigment Plus that cures it?

Intrigued...

Hi Kath

The main ingredient is Elderberry !

Not sure what causes the snow nose, there are many theories, drinking from plastic bowls, a thing that happens in winter, both which doesn't apply to Moose !! :)

I presume this is simply the loss of black pigment in in breeds that should have black noses? It usually happens over the winter when the dogs get no sunshine (or so the theory goes) their nose goes grey and it is usually referred to as "winter nose".? I didn't consider it to be rare - I assumed many people didn't admit to it! I have been told of various remedies - avoid carrots, try kelp, cabbage etc...but now I will try this on my bitch who has suffered from this every winter apart from when she was pregnant! Thanks :)

Also brown pigment as she is a chocolate Lab and her nose is pink and has happened during summer.

Carrots, that is a new one that I hadn't heard before, she gets a carrot a day but so do my other two and they have nice shiney brown noses !!

I can't see why people wouldn't admit to it ? Do you mean in case it is hereditary ?

I don't think anybody really knows why it happens !! I have read alot about it and that is the conclusion I have come to !! :)

I'll be delicate here - I think some show people don't admit their dogs have it as it is a slight defect, and there are products that can, shall we say, cure it very quickly, but then it comes back the next day!!! ;) As for whether it is hereditary, I'm not sure - as I said, my bitch gets it, so does the dog I used, but my puppies have been okay up to now, as far as I know, and they are now two.

I have read I think in the US they actual recommend tattoos !!

So what can you give which is a temp cure ? Boot polish ! :)

I think its a sort of dye - did hear of one managing to lick its nose before it dried and having a black stripe on its tongue for a couple of days. :D

It isn't viewed as a defect in Alaskan Malamutes , it is just something that happens sometimes :) I went to a talk by Jannat Al Haddad last year and she was talking about Snow Nose ..she said it *could* be a stress related thing but there was no definitive argument one way or another :)

Glad to hear that the medication worked , I will have to store that info away ;)

Re Snow nose, my bullmastiff bitch gets this every year. Do you have the address for Animal Health, i would love to try this product on her and see if it works.

Here you go.

Just to say it doesn't work overnight and she still has a way to go until she has a full brown nose again ! :)
