Some elderly friends have just lost their aged GSD to cancer. They want to rehome a rescue dog, not a puppy, it has to be a large gentle breed. Les the husband is retired and walked Evie the GSD 4 times a day and he is now lost. I suggested a greyhound, would this be appropriate ? I have met 2 rescue ones and they are both gentle giants and so appreciative of their new homes. Does anyone have any details of any rescues in the Merseyside or Lancashire area please.

I would think a greyhound would be ideal, they don't need too much exercise and when at home tend to lie around peacefully. Greyhound rescue UK has details of local rescue organisations and descriptions of dogs. The more Greyhounds I meet the more I like them.

I agree they will love the kind of walks you mention! I think they are one of the best kind of dogs for older folk. Also they don't like going out when the weather is bad.
