Gave Teddy and Cassie a rawhide bone each yesterday, one of the large 'pressed' ones. Last night Cassie was sick 5 or 6 times and this morning Teddy had really really runny poo :(
Is this normal with these chews?? I shouldnt think it is but why would they get ill like this after eating them? Teddy was constipated last night and then had the runs this morning, Cassie doesnt have the runs at all but was vomitting last night. Im going to try some natural yoghurt, do you think this would help? Thanks.

Rawhide doesn't do mine any good, either. :(

IMHO the only place for a rawhide bone is in the bin. No one knows where they come from (not necessarily cows) they are treated with all sorts of chemicals, they can cause blockages of the gut.

If you want to give your dog something to chew give him either a nylabone like Goliath etc or a real bone (not the sterilised things sold in pet shops).

Live yoghurt is excellent for restoring the guts natural balance.

Thanks a lot, Teddy has a nylabone and Cassie has a kong, only got the rawhide to give them a change really, learnt my lesson now :) Why is it that the bones sold in pet shops are cooked when I thought dogs were only supposed to eat raw bones?? Do petshops actually care about the dogs health at all or just about profits?? :(

I gave my lab a hot dog rawhide chew and boy did he suffer.. he had the runs and was sick in the morning.. you don't really know what goes into those chews. I learnt my lesson to bless his little bottom!!!

Look on this site www.voice4dogs.org you will see where some of them come from.

hi there my two dogs love the rawhide chews but if they have a long unwatched couple of hours going at them constantly then they do have the runs bigs time so i tend to only let them have them for a short period of time (20 min or so) once a weeek .not only do all pet shops sell them but our local vets sell them too and i'd read of the occasional promblems but when i saw them on sale in the vet i thought they must be alright, it does make you wonder with some vet that they are only in it for the money and dont care how they make it
