Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Tips for Barfers on holiday in the UK
- By Carol S [de] Date 23.09.03 19:51 UTC
Now that Britain has opened its doors to dogs from other countries, more and more tourists will be bringing their dogs with them, just like we did this year - Polly loved Cornwall and my memories were confirmed that the British are a nation of dog lovers !!

A question has come up on a German web forum if anyone has any tips for barfers when on holiday. Does anyone have any tips for the UK ? Are there any "chain" pet stores for instance who supply raw meat, would you recommend any particular supermarkets ?

Is there anything we should avoid ?

Anything you would like to comment on would be great !

Thanks for your help

Hiya.......

The chainstore Pets at Home (formerly Petsmart) do carry AMP's range of raw meat minces, chunks etc......also, as i ahve found, a lot of smaller independant pet stores stock raw foods, though not always the AMP range, sometimes its slightly dubious 'meat' in a plastic bag..........up to you wether u trust the latter, but ihavent had a problem with AMP stuff........failing that, local supermarkets stock chicken wings and frozen economy mince and there is always local meat markets/fish markets and butchers.

Hi !

Thanks for the quick message.

Being an expat, I'm not up to date on many companies in the UK - what does AMP stand for ? Is it a brand to be found all over the UK or is it regional, also Pets at Home- are they everywhere ?

We always holiday in Cornwall and sometimes visit friends in my home town of Sheffield but I've never come accross either. But then this year was our first visit with the dog and I took her kibble with me from Germany.

What kind of prices could we expect for AMP products ?

Sorry to ask so many questions . . . . .

Not actually sure wot AMP stands for , something Meat Products i assume.....its found all over the UK, if you email them, from teh website linked in teh other reply, they will tell you the nearest stockist to where u will be....i found them very helpful.

Pets at Home stores are usually found on retail parks on the outskirts of towns, having not been to sheffield or cornwall for about ten years, i cant help you there, sorry.....

Prices, about 50p for a block of frozen mince, (varieties are lamb, rabbit, beef, beef n kidney, tripe, etc) i think the bags of chunks are about £3.99 might be less though, its months since i bought any........a block of frozen mince should last a large dog one meal, or a smaller dog two meals, depending on if you mix it with veg n stuff..the bags of frozen chunks, like tripe, tend to last my three ickle dogs a couple of weeks, but they only have it once or twice a week.

HTH,
