Hi, we have a 5 1/2 month old pup (Husky) and we feed him 3 times a day on Bakers Complete Puppy Food at the reccommended amount. The problem is he does not stop (sorry if your eating) pooing, he goes at least 8 times a day (no im not exaggerating (sp)) sometimes up to 10 times. Is there something wrong with him or is this normal? he seems fine in himself and has recently been wormed etc. Are we feeding him too much or is a trip to the vet in order.

Please help as my partner and I are starting to worry.

Thanx

Not all dog food suits all dogs. IMHO Bakers would not be on top of my list if I fed commercial dog food. The frequency of defecation is a little excessive I would say this can be due to several reasons.
You may be overfeeding him, not all dogs require the amounts described on the box.
The dog may well not tolerate one or more ingredients contained in the recipe.

You could try changing the diet to one which has the minimum of ingredients such as Natures Menu, Nature Diet or Burns which, in general have fewer potential "allergens" eg it is just meat and rice ( I would personally keep away from anything with sugar beet pulp, peanut hulls, maize (corn), wheat and soya.

If this does not work you could have your dog allergy tested which is covered if you are insured; this is expensive in the short run but cheaper than buying and discarding lots of food on the hit and miss approach.

In the meantime adding live yoghurt to your dogs diet will help replace any "good" bacteria lost from the gut due to dire rear!

I had the same problem with my 5 month Bordeaux . She was eating hills science , then changed her to pedigree which only did the same . providing you get the dog checked by the vet as stated in the previous reply and theres no underlying factors there , you could try changing to Arden Grange dry complete . As soon as mine was fed this she only went about 2 - 3 times a day - its a premium dry food and it promotes a lower odours and smaller stools !! !! get a small bag on order form your vets or visit Ardengrange.com. but I now swear by it !

A Husky would NEVER need anywhere near the 'recommended' amount on any bag of food....a history of scavenging means they need proportionally less than a like sized dog :-) You are lucky it is holding together as solid pooh and not the squits.

You would be better off to register as this is your second question
