Hi all, had a look in the archives on here but couldn`t find anything. What I`d like to know is, is it safe to leave your credit card details on there? Been nosing around on there & had a look atregistering but ebay says I have to put my card details on, not to fussed bout doing that!
Thanks.

Ebay is fantastic Christine ..very safe and horrendously addicitive ;) There are lots of Ebay sites I tend to use co.uk and also .com :)

There is , however , a scam email being sent around that you should be aware of ..purporting to come from Ebay , asking you to confirm credit card details via email ..Ebay will NEVER do this so just be aware , all transactions are carried on on the website :)

Tell me bout it & I`m not even registered yet Mel! :) :) Got me eye on a couple of things already, just need to register.
So it`s ok to put them on then & that`s normal practice?
Thanks Mel, & for the warning re phoney email :)

Yes , they have a very good reputation Christine ....obviously not everything can ever be 100% secure ..but I have had no problems and I know there are lots of Ebayers here on CD :D

Hi Cristine,
Ebay's excellent. I've been buying for months now, and have just started selling. I've had no problems at all.
But it definately is very addictive!! (bit like this!!)

Right then, guess you know what I`ll be doing from now on then :) :) And I`ve got the perfect excuse, our house is nearly finished & I absolutely just need all kinds of new stuff for it......don`t I??? :)

Hi Christine,

I've being buying/selling on email for about 4 years now it's as safe as anything can be in this day and age.

As Mel says don't pay any attention to "ads" that say they come from ebay they don't.

Other than that have fun and keep bidding.

Thanks folks :) Been having some fun & done some bidding, now just waiting to see if I get them. I`ll be made up if I do :)
Do any of you use PayPal? I can`t because they don`t have Gibraltar on the countries list.

Well how safe is this???? Had a message to ring my bank yesterday but only just got the message before, so rang them. They wanted to know if I`d logged on to ebay with my card to buy something!!!!! Said yes how do you know? Cos my cards tracked 24hrs & anything out of the usual they check so had a little chat & she said yep ebays really safe & nothing to worry bout :) :)

Say thats about as safe as it gets folks! :)

Well Christine at least you know that whatever you buy will be "seen" by the credit card companies.

That rules out any packages that need to be delivered in brown paper ;)

Hi Christine.

I dont trust nobody on the net when it comes to money. Ilogged on to e bay with a debit card and then changed banks and cancelled the cards. I only buy from people in the uk so that I can pick things up myself. I just bought a guitar thats worth a lot of money for 200 quid (It needs assembled which I can do) and the guy is sending it to me and I have sent him a cheque. Its the first time I have done this. Should be okay. I hope so for his sake.

Hiya Mick :) Don`t say that!! Too late now, I`ve already bought stuff  but with a cheque, so think it`ll be ok :)
Bidding for a book & it was mine......till the last minute when somebody jumped in & my bid didn`t get thru before bidding closed, miffed I was! Thought of putting a higher one in at the last mo myself but thought that would be too mean, won`t make that mistake again. But got another book I wanted later :)
Hope all goes well with your buys....for the fellers sake!! :)

By the way Mick, re the woman who had the prob with her staffy in Gib. Hubby wrote a letter to env. health along with reference letters for the dog from vet, friends & family but he hasn`t heard back from them yet. But thinks it should be OK & things will work out, thanks for the help on that. :) let you know when he hears anything.

Hi Christine - I buy all my horse stuff through ebay, and I am a "sniper" bidder. I always wait until the last 30 seconds before bidding - no point in pushing the price up beforehand! I got a rug for my pony for £12 and a brand new sheepskin numnah for £9 (worth £40) :)
- By Christine Date 24.09.03 20:55 UTC
Oooo you sneaky lot!!!! :) Well sussed that out really after my first bid that I lost at the last minute but really wanted. Guess I`m as sneaky as everyone one else eh?? wink:)
Thing is Gibraltar isn`t covered by paypal & it wont register me. So what I`ve done is contacted a fe of the sellers & they are happy to accept cheque, just take a bit longer cos of post.
AND I won my 4th bid today so no stopping me now, my feller`ll be having breakdown soon, thinking my spendings out of control :) lol

You wait till you start getting good feedback - you become obsessive about it.... hounding down sellers who forget to leave it!! I am very proud of my ebay feedback...even though I am sure some other buyers who I have pipped to the post are not impressed :D ;)

Hi Christine

I have been using ebay for a while and havent had any problems with it, although i have found from past experiance dont bother with buying any holiday or concert tickets, went to a concert in june and someone in front had there tickets in there hand and i could see that theres had an impressed mark on it and ours didnt!!! i thought then oh no what if they check them but luckily they didnt so we went straight in so now i stay clear of those sorts of things, just stick to my gsds, cockers, police dog badges and the odd signed photo and i have the same name on here as i do on ebay.

Good luck with your bidding and a little tip always wait till the very last thing to bid because if you bid early you will just push the price up you find this happens a lot with new people on there thay are all fighting over something far to early and the price goes sky high, just go in for the kill last thing much more fullfilling especially if you have nicked something off someone who has done it to you in the past :D

Christine,

I personally use a credit card for any on line purchases including e-bay you have far more security.

I bought a Burberry cap it was £50 and the company charge my account with £550 , Visa sorted it out right away for me.. This was not e-bay though just an on line shop.. maybe a mistake but a bigger as far as I am concerned.

I have not had any problem at all with ebay..

I personally have never had problems with buying from it. However my sister does a lot of buying and selling over e bay. A few months ago she recieved the e mail supposedly from e bay asking he to verify her details. My sister, gullible as she is replied and thought nothing more of it. A few weeks later she tried to log on and discovered her e bay password had been changed. Her yahoo mail account had also been changed but she did eventually manage to hack into her own account. It turns out that some bloke had got into her accounts and changed them and then begun selling £1000 computers using her name and e mail address. She was getting loads of enquiris about it. She e mailed e bay telling them that someone had hacked into her account and so what do they do, BAN her! They blamed her for it, because of course it was her account. Mean while she had to cancel her credit card as the details were on the account and he was using it. After lengthly e mails she was reinstated but she never replied to any e mails asking for details again. You have been warned!

I have been useing ebay for a few year and pay pal and have had no bother, I make sure that I look at the ratings and feedback that gives you a good guide who to buy from, and who not to bother with.Had some great bargains but with having the van it is a bit addictive bought a stompa bed for £1 and also a 3 piece suite for £1 just because I wanted the foot stool

I have been buying and selling on ebay for about 2 years now. I have never had any problems with buyers, sellers or card security. profits from selling on ebay paid for my 2nd Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so I love it !!!

Happy ebaying !! Once you start, you will be hooked :-)

I only joined EBay to make a complaint.
I had to join to email a seller. They where using a picture of my dog on 2 year planners cheque book covers and switch covers they where selling. They only stopped selling them after I reported it to ebay.
Then I got hooked buying things and have found it great.

Hi ebay is great,i've had no troubles and we've even bought over in the usa.I'm mostly a seller though and i've just reached 570 transactions!!!!!!!!!!Best tip i can give is to read sellers feedback and payment terms before you bid,if they dont display P+P costs ask before you bid!!
