Topic Dog Boards / General / KC Champions?? What does this mean?

Hello Everyone

Got Molly's paperwork back at the weekend and have a quick question re the five generation chart. What do all the dogs in red mean? It says that they are 'champions' - but at what? Which shows?

On the oldest line practically every other name is in red. Then there are quite afew more and both her great-grandparents on dads side are red and also her grandmother on mums side is in red. Is this good?

I would say Show Champions ..I don't know what breed she is , but certain breeds can be FTCH ..Field Trial Champions ..Champions way back in the pedigree is nice , but I believe it is more relevant if the sire and dam are Champions

A Champion has to win a certain amount of Challenge Certificates at various shows before being made a Champion ..so it wouldnt be *at what show* rather at which shows ;)

Someone who knows more will probably be along soon to help

Melody :)

Thanks for the reply Mel.

She's a Westie. We're not planning to do any sort of showing with her but was just curious to see what it all meant. We were impressed anyway!!!

Depending on the breed it will either be show which will have Ch in front of name or, if it is a gundog, Sh Ch in front of the name. If a gundog has Ch in front of its name it means that not only has it won 3 CC s in the show ring but it has either passed a Show Dog Working Certificate or been placed in a field trial. Field Trial Champion (for gundogs) will be indicated by FT Ch, Working Trial Champions by WT Ch and Agility Champions by Ag Ch in front.

Hope this helps
